Does Wi-Fi really have any radiation hazards?
Recently, there has been a lot of debate about Wi-Fi radiation. It started when a young man forced the entire building to ban the use of Wi-Fi because he was worried that Wi-Fi would cause physical harm to his pregnant wife. There are also rumors that Wi-Fi kills plants, Wi-Fi causes cancer, and early Wi-Fi kills sperm. So is Wi-Fi radiation harmful? According to tests by various research institutions, at a distance of two feet, using the roughest calculation method and the highest transmission frequency, the radiation that an 802.11b transmitter can generate is about 2 microwatts per square centimeter (that is, one millionth of a watt per square centimeter). What is the concept of this data? Let's compare it with some reference objects: In our daily lives, the radiation generated by devices such as televisions and radios when they are working is about 1 microwatt per square centimeter. In such an environment, we certainly won't feel any discomfort. But what about the radiation emitted by mobile phones? According to tests, the transmission power of smartphones currently used in the market is about 1.55 watts to 1.07 watts when working. This data is N times larger than that of Wi-Fi transmission equipment. We are still using mobile phones every day, so why should we worry about the radiation problem of wireless network equipment? The size of the radiation mainly depends on the size of the transmission power. The regulations of China's Radio Management Committee stipulate that the transmission power of wireless LAN products cannot be greater than 10mW, while the standards of other countries are relatively loose. For example, the upper limit of the transmission power of wireless LAN products in Japan is 100mW, and some European and American countries are about 50mW. At present, the products sold on the market generally meet the standards of European and American countries. When the power of mobile phones is high, it can reach more than 1W. The transmission power of most wireless routers is between 50mW and 100mW, and the power of wireless network cards is generally below 10mW. The Federal Communications Commission FCC of the United States has made regulations that as long as the radiation of wireless network equipment is limited to 1000 microwatts per square centimeter, it is safe. Therefore, even if multiple wireless devices are used in a room at the same time, it will not directly harm the human body. Data: How much radiation can WLAN generate? So how much radiation can WLAN generate? We can take a look at some data. In fact, in our daily lives, we are constantly affected by the radiation generated by the electronic devices around us, such as TVs, radios, mobile phones, etc. Robert Cleveland, a scientist from the FCC Engineering and Technology Department, found that the average radiation people receive in their daily lives is about one microwatt per square centimeter (one millionth of a watt). The FCC's safe radiation limit for Wi-Fi frequencies is 1,000 microwatts per square centimeter. Therefore, even if multiple Wi-Fi devices are used in a room, the radiation is quite small. Instead of worrying about Wi-Fi radiation and disturbing your neighbors, you can turn off the TV, stay away from computers and mobile phones, and exercise more outdoors. The radiation from these products is much greater than that from wireless routers.
