Nokia is back, are Nokia fans ready?

Although Nokia's voice in the consumer electronics market has been fading since its devices and services division was taken over by Microsoft, when Nokia suddenly released an Android tablet called N1, the attention and curiosity of global technology media and digital enthusiasts were quickly drawn, once again proving Nokia's remaining influence.

Today, Nokia gathered 800 Nokia fans from all over the country and held a press conference in Beijing titled "The King Returns, Just for Nokia Fans", officially introducing the N1 to China, priced at 1,599 yuan. The product will be available for online purchase at 12:00 on January 8 and will be officially shipped on January 28.

Nokia N1 uses a CNC one-piece aluminum alloy back shell, a 7.9-inch 2048 x 1536 resolution screen, a 64-bit Intel 2.4 GHz quad-core Atom Z3580 processor, 2GB RAM + 32GB ROM, an 8-megapixel rear camera + a 5-megapixel front camera, a reversible Type-C USB, a body thickness of 6.9mm, a weight of 318g, and runs the Android 5.0 operating system.

The N1 is equipped with Z Launcher developed by Nokia based on Android 5.0. It has a circular icon and provides some special functions, such as automatically searching for applications with the first letter by handwriting it on the home screen.

The 1599 yuan price in China is a reasonable price. Most Android tablets with similar configurations on the market are priced around 2000 yuan, and the 1599 yuan price is far lower than the previous high-end device pricing range of Nokia. According to Nokia itself, "only for Nokia fans", in other words, Nokia hopes to continue to influence the consumer electronics market with its brand influence and huge fan base after the divestiture.

However, without its own factory, after Microsoft's full takeover and massive layoffs, Nokia may have to resort to OEM if it wants to produce smartphones again. According to Nokia's technical director Ramzi, Nokia's own team is responsible for the product design and quality control of the N1, and Foxconn produces it according to Nokia's industrial standards.

In the future, we do not rule out the possibility that Nokia will continue to leverage its brand influence to license its brand to third-party manufacturers and launch more consumer electronics products. Even in 2016, after the terms of the agreement with Microsoft expire, Nokia may launch Android smartphones again.

This may be a lighter Nokia, without the heavy burden of traditional manufacturing and the shackles of camps. It will continue to carry forward the fine tradition of R&D and design, transfer manufacturing to OEM factories, and humble itself to activate long-dormant fans.

Previously, Phonearena conducted a small survey: Should Nokia make Android phones? Although the page was later deleted inexplicably, more than 95% of the nearly 1,000 people who voted supported Nokia's return to the smartphone industry. After all, this is a popular brand that maintains a country and influences an era. At 1,599 yuan, the price of N1 is probably one of the most cost-effective products in Nokia's history, but the brand influence behind it is definitely more than that.
