Chatting about technology: Predicting the six major technology trends of mobile phones in 2015

2014 has gone far away from us. In the past year, many things happened to everyone, some people got married, some people got married, and of course, some people got divorced. No matter whether these things are sad or happy, they are worth remembering. For me, a technology media editor, many amazing technologies and products were launched in the past year, and their appearance not only laid the foundation for the beautiful development we yearn for in the future, but also changed our daily life.

The new year of 2015 brings us one step closer to hope. In this year, some technologies that were just concepts or just launched in 2014 are destined to become important trends guiding the development of the entire mobile phone industry in 2015. Today, I will take you to predict and review the eight major technologies in 2015.

4K screen

A few days ago, Huawei CEO Yu Chengdong complained about the 2K screen mobile phones currently on the market, saying that for phones below 6 inches, the human eye can hardly distinguish between 1080P and 2K resolutions. He also pointed out that 2K screens consume more power than 1080P, thus affecting the battery life of mobile phones.

What Yu Chengdong said is not without reason. For users, before they come into contact with 2K screens, they may think that 1080P is already very clear. Even when compared with a 2K screen at a size of 6 inches or less, it is not too bright. However, if it is a 7-inch or 8-inch screen, I believe the 2K screen will highlight its advantages.

2015 may be an era of 2K screens, but in truly high-end flagships, 2K screens may give way to 4K screens.

According to the latest news, the foreign mobile phone brand Arvo has revealed a new phone, which will be equipped with a 4K-level display with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels. In terms of appearance, four sensors are set at the four corners of the body to detect the user's facial expressions. The specific function is not yet known. In terms of camera, the phone uses a 5-megapixel front camera + a 12-megapixel rear camera and supports OIS optical image stabilization.

At the same time, Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 810 processor has added support for 4K resolution in terms of technology, which means that in 2015, manufacturers who focus on fever and build true flagships may adopt 4K screens and start a new round of screen wars.

64-bit processor

If the performance competition of smartphones was still a competition between "core count" and "clock speed" before, then last year, as Apple and Qualcomm continued to launch 64-bit processors, the performance competition has begun to shift towards the direction of architecture, because everyone has realized that no matter how much the number of cores and "clock speed" are increased, the improvement of mobile phone performance is already negligible, and the transition from 32-bit to 64-bit architecture is another direction.

Qualcomm's 64-bit octa-core processor Snapdragon 615 and Apple's A8 processor are products that emerged under such a background. Although everyone believes that the performance of smartphones has reached a bottleneck, consumers always want faster and more powerful mobile phones. In 2014, major processor manufacturers began to focus on 64-bit processors. It is expected that by 2015, A53 and A57 processors will be popular, and Android will also release a 64-bit system. The biggest benefit for consumers is that they can use mobile phones with ultra-large memory, and the experience of playing large games and watching ultra-high-definition videos will be better.

4GB RAM

In 2015, 4GB RAM will surely become the new standard for flagship products of major manufacturers. According to current news, Samsung S6 and Huawei's exposed D8 will both use 4GB RAM. In addition, with the gradual popularization of 64-bit processors, 4GB RAM combined with 64-bit processors can truly bring out its performance advantages.

Therefore, it is expected that next year's flagship phones will break through the 3GB RAM limit and directly reach the 4GB level, and there may even be 8GB, 16GB and other giant-level products (it is said that relevant experimental samples have matured). The direct benefit of increased memory is to effectively improve the user experience of the phone, just like the transition of the Windows operating system from 32-bit to 64-bit, which effectively improves the performance of the phone for users, while having a very small impact on battery life.

Curved screen

Last year, curved screens were still a novelty for us. Today, with the launch of many curved screen phones, especially the high-profile appearance of curved screens at the CES, we are no longer surprised by them. Are you tired of seeing flat mobile phone screens? Do you also want to try something different? When you first see these three mobile phone screens, I am sure that whether you like this design or not, you must be very willing to touch and experience it with your hands.

[[126923]]

Although all three phones have worked hard on the shape of the screen, the modifications to the screens of the three phones are different. Samsung Galaxy Round uses a curved design on both sides of the body, so that even with a 5.7-inch screen, we can still hold it tightly with one hand. The arc design is very ergonomic and provides us with a new idea to solve the contradiction between large screen and one-handed operation. The LG G Flex 2, which was recently unveiled at the CES in the United States, continues the design of the previous generation and uses a curve from top to bottom to inward, so that it can fit the face better and make calls clearer. In addition, our hands are naturally curved, so holding the G Flex feels more natural and more comfortable. Samsung Note Edge adds a curved screen on the right side, and the main body of the screen remains flat, while the curved screen on the right side is used to display SMS reminders, health status, time reminders, weather and other information.

Currently, more and more curved screen mobile phones are being launched on the market, and many manufacturers are also evaluating the feasibility of making curved screen mobile phones. Perhaps in the near future, more and more people around us will start using "curved" mobile phones in their daily lives. Let's look forward to the curved screen bringing us more surprises.

Borderless mobile phone

I don't know when it started, but the mobile phone industry has been in a trend of competing for "narrow borders" and "screen-to-body ratio". With the rise of large-screen mobile phones, in order to balance the contradiction between large screens and one-handed operation, everyone racked their brains to make their borders narrower, and try to squeeze the space occupied by the borders to accommodate a larger screen. And Sharp's so-called borderless mobile phone has undoubtedly pushed the competition for "narrow borders" to a climax. In fact, this mobile phone is not completely borderless, but the border is so narrow that it is imperceptible. It cuts the edge of the screen into a bevel, and then uses the lens effect to cover the original black border, making it look like there is no border.

[[126924]]

It is understood that several borderless mobile phones will be unveiled at this CES. Previously, someone predicted in the CES preview that 2015 will be the real starting point of the borderless mobile phone design revolution, and borderless mobile phones will truly penetrate into people's daily lives. As a barometer of the industry, the performance of manufacturers at the CES basically represents the future development direction of the industry. It can be seen that in the next 2-3 years, the direction of the next industrial revolution of smartphones will be "renovated" in appearance design. Let us wait and see.

Sapphire screen

The selection and use of mobile phone materials has always been a hot topic among major manufacturers and users. From early plastic materials to metal materials, to aviation alloys and leather materials, the application of these materials in the market has also been recognized and popularized by the majority of users. Last year, the mobile phone industry once again sparked a discussion about a new material - sapphire glass.

[[126925]]

For the current mobile phone manufacturers, sapphire glass certainly has a high marketing gimmick, but its real promotion depends on the process technology and production capacity of the glass manufacturers. For example, before the release of iPhone 6, there were many rumors on the Internet that Apple might use sapphire glass in the next generation of products, but after the press conference, users did not see the iPhone 6 with sapphire glass. The biggest reason for this is that the sapphire glass manufacturer that cooperated with Apple was unable to carry out large-scale mass production due to technical difficulties, which resulted in the manufacturer eventually declaring bankruptcy due to heavy debts.

However, there are some manufacturers on the market that have launched mobile phone products using sapphire glass, such as the X5 Sapphire Limited Edition released by vivo, the Sapphire P7 launched by Huawei, etc. Although the products are not of high quality, many manufacturers have already tried them. I believe that in 2015, more and more manufacturers will use sapphire screens.
