Practical skills for APP promotion - IOS 100-character keyword coverage!

As a newbie ASO er, I have read the company's entry-level ASO book for newbies twice, skimmed through it three times, and read a lot of articles on public account promotion intermittently. In the early stage, I roughly instilled these books and related materials into my head. Although they were one-sided, scattered, and unsystematic, I was always lucky. Every time after reading an article, I would encounter the same problem the next day, which enabled me to solve it.

Therefore, in the early stage, you must constantly instill knowledge into your head. You don’t have to understand it, but you must know it. This will be of great help in personal testing later.

What is 100-character keyword coverage ?

Keywords are also called keyword coverage, which can be simply understood as when any word you think of on IOS, this App will appear in front of you, which means that your product covers this keyword (of course, some big names give professional terms, that is, when users search for some words in the App Store, if an App appears in the search results, then the App covers these words.).

The wider the keyword coverage, the more opportunities the App will have to be displayed to users, and the natural number of user downloads will of course increase accordingly, which is of great benefit to App promotion and operation .

Keyword coverage generally requires three sets of 100-character solutions. Of course, the number 3 is the result of continuous exploration by predecessors based on the App Store's keyword coverage algorithm. It is effective in improving keyword coverage in China. They are Chinese, British English, and Australian English, with Chinese having the highest weight, and the other two sets of weights follow suit.

When CPs upload or update products on iTC (as shown above), they can fill in multiple versions and keywords in multiple countries and regions. However, how many countries or regions to fill in and which countries and regions to fill in requires us young people to continuously explore based on the iteration of Apple's algorithm and truly implement keyword coverage for the Chinese region, so as to improve the keyword coverage of the product.

1. Understand and analyze the product

To make a perfect optimization plan, the best thing is to fully understand the product you are making. Download, experience, understand and analyze it yourself, and use existing platforms (such as Qimai Data, Chan Master , etc.) to collect, organize and classify information about the product from all sources, including application information, ratings, comments and real-time rankings.

2. How to choose keywords

First, you need to understand the keyword coverage of strong competitors, select 5-6 competitors, analyze the keywords according to the popularity value and ranking, select keywords with higher popularity or more volume through screening and duplication, and then form 3 sets of words through permutations and combinations.

3. How to rank keywords

First, know the position weight of the keyword. The higher the position of the keyword, the greater the weight .

Secondly, the selected keywords are classified into brand words, competitive words , industry words, general words, derivative words, related words, high-frequency words, etc., and then these words are reorganized according to the popularity, search index, etc.;

Finally, through word combination, word expansion and word modification, and through continuous testing and iteration of solutions, the App will cover more and more accurate keywords.

Looking back on the past journey, crawling forward was really difficult, but in practice, constantly exploring new ideas, thinking about new ways out, and with the guidance of the right people, you can achieve twice the result with half the effort. It took 6 hours from receiving the task to the final version, and the final version was completed at 00:24 in the morning.

(If the client has an original 100-character keyword, try to ask for a version from the client to avoid clearing out the previously covered hot keywords when optimizing yourself, which would not be worth the effort. This set of keywords is mainly divided into brand words, common words, competitor words, related words and App products used by the target audience).

When the application was submitted for launch, something big happened at Apple’s home. The keyword rankings jumped like a bungee jumping (some say an electrocardiogram), and 14,000 apps were removed from the shelves. However, the effect of keyword coverage optimization was still good.

It was not submitted until May 7th. However, as always at the last minute, Apple played a joke and said that due to geographical restrictions on the product, it could not be promoted and used globally, and the 100-word keyword could only be submitted in Chinese. But judging from the data, the coverage effect was unexpected.

Effect:

When I first saw the coverage effect in the picture below, I was actually disappointed. I felt that the coverage effect was not very good. It only covered 1,600 keywords, but I didn’t know what was wrong with me. Then I looked for the coverage of some other related products and found that under the same circumstances, the keyword coverage of each product reached 1,600, which was actually very good. Later, after the subsequent ASO optimization , the keyword coverage soared and reached 3,000.

During this period, I have been doing ASO keyword coverage, involving products from various industries, such as dictionaries, installment shopping, life tools, financial management, games... To be honest, I am not good at making games, because I don’t play games myself and don’t know what the keywords in the game mean. When King of Glory was the most popular, I also tried to download and play it, but after playing a few games, I didn’t know why I won, so I uninstalled it later (game masters, please don’t complain!)

The formation of proficiency requires a foundation of time. To be more precise, it requires constant attention to hot topics, hot words, sensitive words and illegal words, constant attention to major events on the Internet , and obtaining first-hand data sources like a journalist.

Once you see a word, you will know whether it is suitable for the product, whether it can bring volume, how much volume it can bring, how to get the volume, etc.

This requires product testing. Multiple tests can ensure the accuracy of the data. Find a few test packages to test the keywords you selected to ensure scientificity.

Of course, it is not enough to sit in front of the computer all day and struggle to choose words. Exchange and communication are necessary. By communicating with the company's business, you can learn about the latest market conditions; by communicating with the technical department, you can understand the probability of product package approval and the pain points of the review; by communicating with the outside world, you can replace knowledge and thereby expand your own cognitive scope.
