Beijing has reached severe pollution

The Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a yellow sandstorm warning at 06:00 on March 22:

Affected by cold air and strong winds, it is predicted that from 08:00 on March 22 to 08:00 on March 23, there will be blowing sand or dust weather in parts of southern Xinjiang, northern Qinghai, central and southern Gansu, Ningxia, most of Inner Mongolia, most of Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, central and western Heilongjiang, central and western Jilin, Liaoning, Shandong, Henan, northern Jiangsu, northern Anhui , and northern Hubei. Among them, there will be sandstorms in parts of southeastern Inner Mongolia, Beijing, northern Tianjin, central and northern Hebei, and strong sandstorms in some areas.

According to real-time data at 6 a.m. on the 22nd, Beijing's air quality has reached a severe pollution level .

The Beijing Meteorological Observatory upgraded and issued a yellow sandstorm warning signal at 5:40 a.m. on the 22nd: At present, obvious sandstorm weather has occurred in the city. It is expected that from now until noon on the 22nd, the minimum visibility in most areas will be less than 1000m.

Cold air brings strong winds and cooling

The largest sandstorm hits the north this year

According to the website of the Central Meteorological Observatory, from the 21st to the 23rd, affected by cold air, parts of the northeastern part of the Northwest region, Inner Mongolia, North China, Northeast China and other places will have northerly winds of 4 to 6, with gusts of 7 to 9. Most of the above-mentioned areas will experience a temperature drop of 4 to 6℃, and in some areas above 10℃, accompanied by large-scale sandstorm weather .

On the 21st, the air quality in Yinchuan, Baotou and other places was seriously polluted, among which the air quality index in many cities such as Lanzhou and Xining exceeded the limit.

From the 21st to the 22nd, the impact of the sandstorm will expand eastward, with blowing sand or dust weather in Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and the central and western parts of Northeast China. The main period of sandstorm weather in Beijing will be from the early morning to the morning of the 22nd, and morning rush hour travel may be affected. This will be the third sandstorm weather in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei this year, and it will also be the largest sandstorm process in the north.

The specific timetable of sandstorm impact is as follows:

By the morning of the 22nd

→ There will be blowing sand or dust weather in parts of central and northern Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, southwestern Heilongjiang, western Jilin, and western Liaoning. Among them, there will be sandstorms in the northern part of central and western Inner Mongolia, and strong sandstorms in some areas.

Around noon on the 22nd

→It began to affect Henan, Shandong and other places;

Daytime on 23rd

→The sandstorm weather is gradually weakening and its impact is coming to an end.

Why is sandstorm so frequent in the north this year?

Zhang Juan, a meteorological analyst at China Weather Net, said that since March, most parts of northern China have had less precipitation, and the temperature in sand source areas such as Mongolia and China's northwest region has been significantly higher . There is basically no snow cover on the surface. Once cold air invades, sandstorms are likely to occur.

Not all dusty weather is called sandstorm

Whenever the sky turns yellow and dust floats in the air, some people think: a sandstorm is coming!

In fact, not all dust weather is a sandstorm. Only when the sandstorm reaches a certain intensity can it be called a sandstorm . In meteorology, according to the impact from light to heavy, sandstorm can be divided into floating dust, blowing sand, sandstorm, severe sandstorm and extremely severe sandstorm.

Dust storms, especially extremely severe ones, are a type of disastrous weather that can cause great harm. When a sandstorm strikes, the meteorological department will issue a corresponding warning.

According to the current national warning issuance standards, the sandstorm warnings issued by the Central Meteorological Observatory are divided into three levels: blue, yellow, and orange sandstorm warnings . The warning colors range from light to dark, representing increasing levels of impact and defense.

Dust is coming! Please keep this protection guide

Dust weather will cause the air quality to deteriorate, seriously affecting people's daily lives, and will also have a certain impact on the ecological environment and some agricultural facilities. Once you receive a sandstorm warning issued by the meteorological department, please take preventive measures in time to reduce the adverse effects of sandstorms.

The elderly, children, pregnant women, and people with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases are sensitive groups and should try to avoid going out during sandstorms. If they develop chronic cough with sputum or shortness of breath, paroxysmal wheezing and chest pain, they need to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
