Consumer Reports tests Model 3 fully autonomous driving: Not worth it

There is a saying circulating on the Internet: "There are two kinds of autonomous driving in the world, one is called Tesla, and the other is not called Tesla." It can be seen that consumers have a very high opinion of Tesla's autonomous driving system.

Recently, Tesla launched a "full self-driving" kit, which is priced at US$8,000 overseas and RMB 64,000 in China.

In response to this function, the well-known American media Consumer Reports conducted a field test on the Model 3. However, the final conclusion was beyond people's expectations. Consumer Reports believed that Tesla's fully autonomous driving was not worthy of its name and was completely unworthy of its high price.

Consumer Reports pointed out that in the actual test of fully autonomous driving, the Model 3 failed in multiple scenarios and testers had to intervene.

When it comes to automatic parking, the Model 3 performs very unstably. The autopilot system often ignores suitable parking spaces, and the process is completely controlled by the system, with no user intervention.

When using the vehicle summoning function, the vehicle often chooses a very complicated route, which is very time-consuming. In addition, the system cannot recognize the signs in the parking lot, which poses a considerable safety hazard.

When driving on Autopilot, the navigation system sometimes becomes unavailable, resulting in missed intersections. The Model 3 also often stays in the passing lane for a long time after overtaking.

The Model 3's fully autonomous driving also has problems recognizing traffic signals and parking signs. Frequent recognition errors force testers to brake frequently to avoid running red lights.

To sum up, Consumer Reports' final evaluation of Model 3's fully autonomous driving is: it does not live up to its reputation and is not worth its high price at all.
