The future of Meizu Flyme: Will not miss Android 5.0 and aims at O2O through cooperation with Alibaba

On November 19, Meizu officially released its flagship phone MX4 Pro. However, during the press conference, more emphasis was placed on the changes in operating features brought about by the Flyme version upgrade to 4.1, while there was not much mention of "Flyme Powered by YunOS" and the newly released Android 5.0.

To this end, Yang Yan, vice president of Meizu and chief designer of Flyme, revealed in an exclusive interview with the media after the meeting that Meizu will not give up the development of Android, and Flyme users will not miss Android 5.0.

Yang Yan believes that Android 5.0 is the most significant and complete version of the Android system to date. Previously, Yang Yan posted pictures on Weibo showing Meizu engineers conducting research and development work related to Android 5.0. For all manufacturers in the Android ecosystem, including Meizu, Android 5.0 is a milestone event.

At present, the models that Flyme can support are not limited to the Meizu brand. At the launch of Meizu MX4 in September, related products of SONY and LG were included in the scope of Flyme adaptation. Yang Yan emphasized that this work will continue to advance in the future.

Regarding the changes brought about by the integration with Alibaba YunOS at the system level, Yang Yan said that "Flyme Powered by YunOS" will not make Meizu "Ali-ized".

For example, in the current Flyme system, the security protection of the mobile phone is provided by Tencent, and the cloud service platform comes from 360. Taking all factors into consideration, the main factor that determines whether Meizu can cooperate with Internet companies depends on whether the services provided by Internet companies meet the needs of Meizu and whether they can reflect the greatest value in Meizu's products. "Ali" products will not be given priority because of the addition of YunOS.

As for the focus of the cooperation between Meizu and Alibaba, the relevant person in charge of Meizu pointed out that the focus in the future will be on offline links and O2O model.

The characteristic of Ali YunOS is that life services occupy a large proportion of the system, which has also been reflected in Flyme. On the other hand, with the emergence of MX4 Pro and Meizu mPay, Meizu and Ali have focused on the mobile payment industry. In 2015, the cooperation between mPay and Alipay and other products seems to have a longer-term meaning for us. Perhaps the direction of their efforts is to open up the domestic market first before Apple Pay and other mobile payment products come in.
