Uber is having trouble retaining talent, with new head of its AI lab Gary Marcus leaving

According to foreign media reports, Gary Marcus, head of Uber's artificial intelligence laboratory, left the company less than three months after taking office. Marcus said on Facebook that he previously worked at Uber as a "special adviser for AI."

Uber acquired AI startup Geometric Intelligence in December last year and appointed Marcus to head Uber's AI lab as part of the acquisition.

Marcus will no longer serve as a special advisor to Uber after his departure. In 2015, he co-founded an artificial intelligence and machine learning startup, Geometric Intelligence, with Zoubin Ghahramani, which was acquired by Uber in 2016. As part of the acquisition, Marcus joined Uber as the head of its artificial intelligence lab.

Unlike Marcus, the remaining 14 employees of Geometry Intelligence chose to stay in the original company and continue to follow another co-founder Zoubin Ghahramani.

At present, Marcus has not announced the reason for his departure. Recently, many top engineers have left Uber, and Marcus has become one of them. Many former Uber engineers have joined companies that compete with Uber or founded their own self-driving companies after leaving. Where will Marcus go? Let's wait and see!
