"Disease rumors" summarized by doctors from various fields! Not only are they ineffective, but they also make you spend more money!

In daily life, problems such as bone spurs, allergies, and low bone density are not uncommon. However, there are many different claims about their treatments, some of which claim to have folk remedies or "special medicines"... In fact, they not only waste money, but may also make the condition worse.

Rumor 1: "A certain medicine can eliminate bone spurs"

Orthopedic Surgeon:

No need to remove bone spurs

The official name of bone spurs should be bone hyperplasia, which is the normal aging process of bones. Just like when people get old, their skin wrinkles, their hair turns gray, and their memory declines, it is the inevitable result of human aging. Its formation is a response to bone strengthening stability and resisting pressure. Generally, it is not harmful to the body, so there is no need to treat or remove it.

Bone spurs are also composed of bones. Imagine if a drug could dissolve bone spurs, then using it would also dissolve human bones. Isn't that scary?

Rumor 2:

“There is a specific medicine that can eradicate respiratory allergies”

Allergist:

Currently unable to remove

From the current medical perspective, respiratory allergic diseases cannot be eradicated. Once inhaled allergens are formed, it is difficult to eliminate them. However, through appropriate drug treatment, the symptoms of pollen allergy can be well controlled. In reality, many Olympic champions have allergies, but this does not hinder their competitive performance.

Rumor 3:

"Eye drops can cure myopia"

ophthalmologist:

Can only delay myopia

When children develop myopia, many parents hope that there is some way to help their children get rid of myopia. There are even rumors online that there are eye drops that can "cure myopia". Does this mean that children's myopia can be cured?

Ophthalmologists said that although clinical trials have shown that atropine can slow down myopia, this drug is not a miracle drug and cannot be deified. It cannot cure myopia, but is only a means of slowing down myopia. Once myopia occurs, it cannot be cured , and we can only use these methods in combination to control the growth rate of myopia in children at a low level.

Rumor 4:

"Children's low bone density means calcium deficiency"

Pediatrician:

No need to check if there is no recurrent fracture

Many mothers are always worried about their children's calcium deficiency, so they are very keen on conducting bone density tests. But in fact, healthy children, if they do not have repeated fractures, bone deformities, etc., do not need bone density tests at all.

Children in their growth spurts have their bones lengthened and thickened, which increases the hormones that promote bone growth, and calcium levels are low, which means low bone density. If the bone density is normal, it means that the child is growing slowly.

In other words, low bone density in adults may be due to calcium deficiency, but for children who are constantly growing and developing, low bone density does not mean calcium deficiency, but is a sign of vigorous growth. Some children have bald spots on the back of their head, and parents may worry that it is due to calcium deficiency. In fact, if the child only has bald spots on the back of his head and no other symptoms, there is no need to check bone density.

Rumor 5:

"Family remedies can cure psoriasis"

Dermatologist:

There is currently no cure

Psoriasis, also known as "psoriasis", has many misunderstandings about the basic knowledge of psoriasis. Some hope to cure it once and for all and believe in various folk remedies and secret recipes.

In fact, psoriasis is a chronic recurrent disease, and there is no cure for it. It can only be slowed down or prevented from recurring through regular medication and lifestyle management. Blindly believing in ancestral secret recipes or so-called "curative" drugs not only delays treatment, but some "secret recipes" can even endanger life.

Rumor 6:

"Beware of breast hyperplasia as it may be a precancerous lesion"

Breast surgeon:

No deliberate treatment is required

Many patients with breast hyperplasia are very worried about whether their breast hyperplasia will turn into cancer.

A breast doctor explained that breast hyperplasia is common in young women, and is mainly manifested by periodic breast pain and periodic lumps, which can change with the menstrual cycle, mood, work pressure and other factors. Simple breast hyperplasia is just that the breasts are too crowded. At the same time, the occurrence of breast cancer does not necessarily require the process of breast hyperplasia, and the periodic pain associated with breast hyperplasia is not caused by tumors, so this type of breast hyperplasia has nothing to do with breast cancer!

Moreover, the current treatment for breast hyperplasia is to relieve pain and tension. Hyperplasia itself is not a disease, but when too many people worry about it, it becomes a disease; therefore, there is no concept of "cure" in the treatment of breast hyperplasia. The treatment prescription is very simple, maintain a healthy lifestyle and a happy mood, and avoid tension, but this requires long-term persistence.

Rumor 7:

“Rheumatism can be completely cured”

Rheumatologist:

Usually not curable

Rheumatism is a chronic disease related to the immune system. Many elderly people suffer from it all year round. In severe cases, it can cause joint deformation and disability. Therefore, many people seek medical treatment everywhere, hoping to be cured as soon as possible.

Doctors from the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology said that if you have joint and muscle pain, back pain and stiffness, or abnormal serology or immunology in your blood test, it may indicate that you have a rheumatic disease. Most rheumatic diseases are chronic progressive diseases that cannot be cured, but most rheumatic diseases can be controlled, just like controlling chronic diseases such as high blood pressure.

Rumor 8:

"Gynecological pelvic effusion should be treated promptly"

Gynecologist:

Most of them are physiological

Gynecologists often encounter women in the outpatient clinic who come with physical examination reports or B-ultrasound orders, saying that they have "pelvic effusion" and hope that the doctor will prescribe some medicine for treatment.

In fact, pelvic effusion is not a disease, just like cervical erosion. Most of the time, it is a physiological phenomenon and does not require treatment. Almost every woman has some fluid in her pelvic and abdominal cavities to lubricate the intestines, uterus and other organs, reduce friction between organs, and protect the surface of organs.

Only when the amount of pelvic fluid accumulation is particularly large, with B-ultrasound showing several tens of millimeters or fluid accumulation everywhere (posterior recess, anterior recess, iliac fossa, etc.); and at the same time there is abdominal pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, etc., you need to go to a regular hospital for diagnosis and treatment.
