Apple maintains the integrity of its mobile phones

Apple maintains the integrity of its mobile phones
I believe that users who care about the development of iPhone and large-screen mobile phones have been following the rumors about iPhone 6 recently, just like me. The following is a more reliable one: According to the latest information disclosed by KGI Securities' well-known analyst Guo Mingchi, iPhone 6 does have two screen sizes, 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, and the supported resolutions will be improved compared to the past. Among them, the resolution supported by the 4.7-inch version is 1334×750 pixels, with a pixel density of 326ppi; while the 5.5-inch version is 1920×1080 full HD resolution, and provides a pixel density of 401ppi. If it is true that Guo Mingchi, who has repeatedly successfully predicted the details of the iPhone, said that the iPhone family has adjusted the screen and resolution size for the second time since its birth, and launched two products of different sizes at once, then the status of this generation of products may have a milestone-like commemorative significance in a few years. At the same time, it will also give a considerable number of Android and WP mobile phones with large screens and high resolutions as their main features a blow - the thing that has been worried about for a long time has finally happened, and the iPhone has embarked on the road of large screen development. No one is more stubborn than Apple when it comes to screens and resolutions From the first iPhone to the fifth generation iPhone 4s five years later, the world's most innovative technology company was surprisingly conservative when it came to smartphone screens - the first three generations all used 3.5-inch screens with 480×320 pixels, and although the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s were upgraded to 960×640 pixels, the screen size remained at 3.5 inches. When the first iPhone was released in early 2007, 3.5 inches was indeed a large size. The most classic Nokia N73 of that era had a screen size of only 2.4 inches, and the Motorola V8 endorsed by Beckham had a screen size of only 2.2 inches, so the 3.5-inch "large screen" was indeed a pioneering effort at the time. But it is hard to understand why the iPhone 4s, Steve Jobs' last product released in 2011, still had a 3.5-inch screen. At that time, the second-generation Samsung Galaxy S, the I9100, had already been launched with a 4.3-inch screen, and Google's third-generation Nexus product was also equipped with a 4.65-inch screen. So the iPhone at this time had gone from being a pioneer in 2007 to an outlier. When a large-screen phone passed by you, Apple phone users could only "deceive themselves" into thinking that the iPhone had the best portability - even Apple officials thought so, "Steve Jobs once said that a 3.5-inch screen is the limit for most people to operate a phone with one hand. A screen smaller than this size will affect the phone's visual effects, which will greatly affect the phone's overall user experience." I don't know if it was because of this rumor about screen size that limited the development of the iPhone, but the iPhone released in 2012 5 is the first change in the body size in 6 years. Although there were no flagship phones with 4-inch screens at that time, Apple still sold 5 million products with 4-inch 1136×640 resolution in the first week. The mainstream flagship products of that year were basically locked in the 4.3-4.8-inch 720P screen. So on the issue of screen, Apple has always been unique. Even if the iPhone 6 is really equipped with "unprecedented" 4.7 and 5.5-inch screens, it is not an exciting thing to see from the perspective of the entire mobile phone industry. iPhone is maintaining the integrity of the phone. Regarding the screen size, Apple fans have always believed that Apple's approach is very correct, but it has also become the focus of Apple haters' criticism. We cannot confirm whether the iPhone screen has evolved from 3.5 inches to 4 inches, and then to this year's 4.7 inches or even 5.5 inches, whether it has followed its internal product roadmap step by step, or whether it has been forced to do so by competitors. But Apple's persistence does have two reasons: First, it is the portability theory. Although the screen size of mobile phones has developed to 6 inches or even 7 inches without any moral integrity, it does not consider the user's feelings at all, as if it is designed for Yao Ming. I think Guo Jingming will definitely not use a 6-inch mobile phone. So the term Phablet was born. In fact, this is a very lazy way to throw the choice question to the user. Although we cannot say that 4 inches is the best size, for most Asians, 5 inches and above still cause some pressure on one-handed operation. Don't say you like to play with your phone with both hands, that is the standard action of tablets. Therefore, Apple's persistence in the 4-inch camp in 2012-2013 seems to be sticking to the bottom line of the portability and one-handed control of smartphones. But how long can it hold on? And the indisputable fact that users change their minds faster than they change their faces has already happened - many "unfaithful" users shouted after playing with 5-inch and 6-inch mobile phones: I don't want to use my small iPhone anymore! Second, it is the App theory. At first, everyone found various reasons for not upgrading the iPhone screen. One of the reasons that sounded reasonable was that they were worried that a large number of apps would not be able to adapt to different resolution ratios. The reason was that when the iPhone 4 was upgraded to 960×640 pixels, the screen aspect ratio was still maintained at 1:1.5, so that previous programs could still be displayed perfectly. However, when the iPhone 5's resolution was 1136×640, this reason was no longer justified. The aspect ratio had become 1:1.775. At that time, the Internet was full of articles such as "Recommendations for apps that are perfectly adapted to iOS 6", and developers were racking their brains for the extra 176 pixels, but soon you found that this was not a problem. Developers got the adaptation done within a few weeks. It can be seen that when upgrading the iPhone screen, the interests of apps and developers must be taken into consideration. Although this may not be a big deal, it is still a major issue to consider when the resolution is upgraded and the aspect ratio is changed. Otherwise, when running third-party apps, the screen will have a black border, and even the highest resolution will appear weak. If the two iPhone 6 models really lock the resolution at 1334×750 and 1920×1080, then you will find that their aspect ratios are both around 1:1.778, which is infinitely close to the ratio of iPhone 5/iPhone 5s. In theory, the difficulty of app adaptation is not as great as upgrading from iPhone 4s to iPhone 5. Large-screen mobile phone manufacturers and users are very pretentious. Personally, I think the most "successful" thing for manufacturers in 2014 is that they have made products as large as 6 inches less than 1,000 yuan, and most of the flagship products released this year are rarely less than 5 inches. It seems that we have reached the era of showing off the face of users by screen size, just like buying a car first to consider the space and not the driving experience. Of course, manufacturers will find many reasons for users to buy large-screen mobile phones: it is more comfortable to watch movies, the operation area is larger, playing games is more exciting, and perhaps you can find the feeling of operating a small tablet with both hands, but behind all this, there is a subtext: using a large-screen mobile phone is face-saving. This sentence is too lethal. In the era when buying a mobile phone is like building a computer and talking about configuration, the screen size seems to be the parameter that everyone cares about most. In short, "a big screen covers a hundred uglinesses", so that some manufacturers are embarrassed to release the 4-inch products originally planned. Although the screen size has been increasing again and again, I have not seen many manufacturers make improvements. Whether in formal or private occasions, I have asked many manufacturers a question: Is it really convenient to control a large-screen mobile phone? But they were all covered up by the other party. Although many manufacturers have developed the so-called one-handed mode, it is limited to a few simple programs such as dialing or text input. I can seriously say that no manufacturer has seriously considered the user experience of large-screen mobile phones. Therefore, for a long time, with the cooperation of extremely narrow bezels, the use of large-screen mobile phones has become worse and worse. How bad is it? My colleagues often use "how much of the screen can be touched by fingers" to describe the control feel of large-screen mobile phones. Generally, they can touch 2/3. My personal large-screen mobile phone must set an unlock pattern, not for safety, but to prevent all kinds of random calls after accidentally touching it. The most serious thing is that summer is coming, and people like me who are only sad about losing weight are even more troubled by the large-screen mobile phone that has nowhere to put. With all these inconveniences, sometimes I feel that I am more willing to operate the iPhone that can be easily held in one hand, and the large-screen mobile phone is also forcing me to a dead end. You will find that you can hardly hold it with one hand, so how can you operate it? You will find that the area that can be controlled by one finger is getting smaller and smaller, so how can you hold it with one hand? You will find that the probability of accidental touches has greatly increased, so how can you talk about comfort? You even find that it is uncomfortable to put it in your pocket, so how can you talk about portability? Therefore, current manufacturers and users are somewhat blind, stubbornly believing that they need large-screen mobile phones, and stubbornly believing that large-screen mobile phones are easy to use. In fact, I think that after the screen size exceeds a limit, it has brought a certain degree of discomfort or even disgust to users. If manufacturers really need to develop large-screen mobile phones, please put the experience first and optimize the control. Will iPhone 6 impact large-screen mobile phones? If so, I hope the next generation iPhone will play the role of a large-screen mobile phone revolutionist, because to be radical, I am not satisfied with the current large-screen products, but I hope someone can think about this from the perspective of user use. However, there has been no such "game changer" in the Android and WP camps for so many years. Now this goal can only be pinned on the iPhone 6 - of course, this is just my wishful thinking. Even if the iPhone 6 simply improves the screen size and resolution, it will still sell well. This seems to have been a kind of "inertia" for several years. In the report just released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, 607 new mobile phones were launched in the first quarter of 2014, a year-on-year decrease of 9.5%, and the shipment of mobile phones was 100 million, a year-on-year decrease of 24.7%. The shipment of smart phones was 89.11 million, a year-on-year decrease of 8.9%. The shipment of domestic brands was 66.86 million, a year-on-year decrease of 34.9%. The shipment of international brands was 33.95 million, becoming the only indicator of counter-trend growth in the quarter, an increase of 9.2% year-on-year. From these figures, we can understand one thing: domestic mobile phones have not grown as expected, but have declined significantly. Moreover, this statistic is the shipment volume. If it is reflected in the actual sales volume of the channel, it may be even more serious. So what are the things that domestic mobile phones are keen on in Q1 2014? It is nothing more than large screen, UI and photography. We cannot say that this development direction is wrong, but an indisputable fact is that homogeneity is serious, so serious that it is at the level of chips and solutions. It is so serious that it is impossible to find differences in configuration and design, and instead seek differences in UI and system. Summary: After writing the whole article here, the author finds that it is no longer necessary to explain whether the release of iPhone 6 will have an impact on large-screen mobile phones. This is because: 1. Even if there is no release of iPhone 6, large-screen products represented by domestic Android phones have already declined in Q1. 2. If we assume that iPhone 6 still maintains a 4-inch screen, will it not impact 5-6-inch large-screen products? In fact, when users choose Android and iPhone phones, they may not compare screen size, but measure the user experience. 3. If the size of iPhone 6 is 4.7 or 5.5 inches, it will be a fatal blow to the current mainstream Android flagship models. Unless you are a person who dislikes iOS, everyone wants to buy a large-screen iPhone. 4. Finally, I personally expect that the 3.5-inch iPhone 4s and 4-inch iPhone 5s will still be in Apple's production sequence, because many users still think that this is the best size for mobile phone experience.
