Since 2010, Apple's MacBook Air series of laptops has not received any design upgrades. For Apple, which is known for its innovation, this seems a bit unreasonable. So why has the appearance of the MacBook Air not changed for 4 years? Technology website PCMag recently analyzed this issue. The following is the article: Although Apple is not a company that follows the trend, 4 years is indeed a long time to wait, especially considering that during this period, other competitors have changed several design trends, from small netbooks, to slim ultrabooks, and now convertible notebooks that can be flipped or detached keyboards. With the launch of Windows 8, touch screens are gradually becoming the standard for notebook displays. So why is Apple unwilling to upgrade the design of the MacBook Air? Why is it willing to let one of its most important product lines look a bit "outdated"? The answer to this question seems to be very simple. The reason why Apple does not change the design of the MacBook Air is that they don't need to do so. The Air has plenty of space inside the body to accommodate the system's motherboard, flash memory, memory and battery, while ensuring that it has a 10-hour battery life. The 11-inch model is the perfect size for an airplane seat tray, making it more appealing to frequent flyers. In fact, you can fit an 11-inch MacBook Air anywhere you can fit an iPad. Meanwhile, the 13-inch version is still one of the most compact laptops on the market. It may be a while before Apple introduces a radically redesigned MacBook Air, like the Mac Pro. The latter was just updated last year, but its origins can be traced back to the 2003 Apple Power Mac G5, which was groundbreaking at the time. It had an anodized aluminum chassis, an etched Apple logo on the side, a hollowed-out front and back for heat dissipation, and the iconic handles on the top and bottom. Three years later, Apple completely changed the internal components and adjusted some of the ports, but the external design remained the same, and this was the 2006 Mac Pro equipped with Intel chips. In the following six years, the Mac Pro has ushered in several internal component upgrades, but the design has remained the same because there is no need to change. Finally, in 2013, the new Mac Pro was released, with a cylindrical design that bore no resemblance to its predecessor. I don't think the MacBook Air is dated. The 2014 MacBook Air will be as hated as it was when it was first introduced. The touchscreen doesn't do anything good, because OS X wasn't designed for touchscreens. The 11-inch 1366x768 resolution is also fine, as it's still the most common resolution for most Windows 8.1 laptops. Upgrading to 1080p or higher would cost $1,200, up from $899 today, and that doesn't seem worth the upgrade. Wouldn't a redesigned MacBook Air with a Retina display be desirable? Of course not. But is it necessary? Of course not. I'm also looking forward to seeing how the MacBook Air changes in the future, but if its excellent battery life can be maintained without any loss in overall performance, then I won't be sad and disappointed by the unchanged design.
