According to the data from the Ministry of Public Security, among the fire accidents that have occurred in my country in recent years, fires caused by short circuits in power sockets, switches and circuit breakers are the most common fires, and 52.31% of the respondents are unaware of this. In response to the problem that some manufacturers have disregarded the national mandatory safety standards and wantonly produced non-national standard mobile power sockets (commonly known as "connector boards", hereinafter referred to as "sockets"), resulting in the flooding of unsafe sockets in the market, on May 6, the Consumer Associations (Consumer Councils, Consumer Protection Committees) and China Consumer News Agency in 37 provinces and cities including Fujian, Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen jointly issued a consumer warning: Non-national standard sockets are unsafe, keep your eyes open to prevent risks. When consumers buy sockets, they must buy new national standard sockets, and do not buy unsafe universal sockets and two-core sockets. Universal sockets, that is, sockets that can be compatible with both two-pole and three-pole, or even sockets that are not used daily such as British, American and European standards, but such sockets have large sockets and the contact area between the socket contact and the electrical plug is too small, which can easily cause the contact piece to overheat, leading to fire accidents. On June 1, 2010, the "Part 2 of Plugs and Sockets for Household and Similar Purposes: Special Requirements for Converters" (referred to as the "New National Standard") jointly issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China and the National Standardization Administration began to be enforced, explicitly prohibiting the production of universal sockets. The "New National Standard" requires the production of sockets with two-pole and three-pole sockets (commonly known as "new five-hole sockets"), which have a larger contact area between the plug and the socket, and a closer contact, reducing the risk of electric shock. In addition, since my country first formulated the power socket standard in 1996, it has been clearly stipulated that two-core sockets are unqualified. Two-core sockets are relatively easy to distinguish from the appearance. Any product with a three-pole socket on the plug board but only two pins on the plug itself is a two-core problem socket. This type of socket lacks a ground wire. During use, once an insulating component inside the appliance is damaged, the current will spread all over the surface of the appliance. Since the current cannot be introduced into the ground through the two-core socket, it is very easy to cause electric shock accidents. The results of the "Survey on the Safe Use of Power Sockets" jointly conducted by 38 consumer rights protection organizations on websites such as China Consumer Network, Sina Finance and 3G Portal show that 72.69% of the respondents did not know that the country has explicitly banned the production of universal sockets, and 64.7% of the respondents did not know that two-core sockets seriously violate national standards and can cause accidents such as electric shock and fire. At the same time, more than 90% of households have more than 4 power sockets in use, and 75.83% of the respondents have purchased two-core sockets. The channels through which they purchased the sockets are very worrying. Only 29% of the respondents purchased them in hypermarkets or electrical appliance malls, while others purchased them through hardware stores, building materials markets, convenience stores and online stores, which are exactly where substandard sockets are rampant. The investigation and undercover visits found that many manufacturers of universal sockets often marked the production date of the sockets as before the implementation of the "new national standard" in June 2010, and some did not mark the production date at all. When they were inspected, they lied that they were inventory produced before the implementation of the "new national standard" to avoid punishment. Based on the lack of knowledge about power sockets and the indifference of safety awareness among consumers, 38 consumer rights protection units remind consumers to replace the universal sockets and two-core sockets in their homes as soon as possible to avoid safety accidents. At the same time, when purchasing power sockets, special attention should be paid to the following six points: 1. Choose channels. Consumers should not be greedy for cheapness when purchasing power sockets. It is best to purchase them at regular large chain supermarkets, hypermarkets or electrical appliance cities and other business places, and keep shopping receipts. 2. Recognize brands. Pay more attention to the monitoring and testing information released by the industrial and commercial, quality inspection and other departments and the comparative experimental results published by the Consumer Association (Consumer Committee, Consumer Protection Committee), and try not to choose brands that have been repeatedly exposed and punished. 3. Look at the appearance. The packaging of qualified sockets has complete manufacturer and product information, while some unqualified sockets have simple packaging and lack the most basic manufacturer and product information, especially the production date on the product packaging. Many inferior sockets do not have the production date marked on the product packaging, which often belongs to unqualified sockets. In addition, the qualified socket shell panel is finely made, there are no burrs on the shell and the jack edge, the jack size is symmetrical and uniform, and the poor quality socket shell is rough. 4. Match the hole type. Be sure to buy the "new national standard" socket, and do not buy the universal hole socket that the country prohibits production. The three-phase and two-phase of the "new national standard" socket are separated, with 5 holes; the three-phase jack of the universal hole socket is combined with the two-phase jack, with 3 holes. 5. Count the pins. Do not buy a two-core socket with a three-pole jack on the plug board, but the plug that comes with the socket itself has only 2 pins. 6. Check the feel. It can be distinguished from four aspects: weighing the weight, repeatedly pressing the switch, testing the insertion and extraction force, and pulling the power cord: 1. Weigh the weight: The socket that meets the national standard uses more copper wires, thick copper sheets, and a tight plastic shell, so it is heavier, while the unqualified socket cuts corners and obviously feels much lighter. 2. Repeatedly press the switch: You can repeatedly press the socket switch several times. The qualified socket opens and closes freely and the sound is crisp; the unqualified socket feels stiff and is easy to get stuck. 3. Test the plugging and unplugging force: Not only does the plugging and unplugging feel of each hole of the qualified socket is moderate and elastic, but the plugging and unplugging feel of each socket is consistent; the plugging and unplugging force of the unqualified socket is too loose or too tight, with poor elasticity and easy to loosen, and each hole can also feel the difference in feel. 4. Pull the power cord: The power cord of the qualified socket feels moderately hard and soft, and the connection with the socket is solid and reliable; while the power cord of the unqualified socket feels soft, the connection with the socket is not firm, and it is very easy to pull off. 38 consumer rights protection units called on power socket operators to strengthen self-discipline and operate legally from the perspective of being responsible to consumers, and to prevent the production and sale of non-national standard sockets. At the same time, law enforcement and regulatory departments should strengthen quality supervision of power sockets from the source of production, prevent unqualified sockets from flowing into the market, and ensure consumer safety.
