Why do phones without touch keys have chins?
The development of mobile phones has driven the development of mobile phone buttons. Mobile phone buttons have been replaced by virtual touch buttons as mobile phones have been replaced by physical buttons. Now, touch buttons have only been developed for a few days and are about to be replaced by virtual buttons. As more and more mobile phones with virtual buttons are available, the chin below the mobile phone has not disappeared. People can't help but wonder why the length of the mobile phone's chin has not been improved after the virtual buttons appeared? So why is the length of the chin still the same when the mobile phone is replaced with virtual buttons? When designing a mobile phone, not only the appearance should be considered, but also the distribution of the internal components of the mobile phone should be considered. Since the battery life is generally low at present, if the mobile phone pursues a long battery life, the rated capacity of the battery must be increased. The increase in capacity will naturally increase the volume of the battery, which will cause the battery to occupy most of the space of the mobile phone. However, the mobile phone only has such a large space. How to reasonably distribute the internal components of the mobile phone is an important issue. Even mobile phones with virtual buttons still need to be equipped with charging sockets, microphones, speakers and other accessories at the bottom of the mobile phone. Then the space occupied by these accessories does not allow the phone screen to continue to expand downwards, so a section of the chin needs to be left under the phone to reasonably accommodate these accessories, which means that even if the phone does not have a touch key, the screen of the phone will not increase much. Take Lumia 950XL as an example. This phone has built-in virtual buttons. Compared with other phones, the chin of Lumia 950XL is not too long. Since the back cover of Lumia 950XL is detachable, when the back cover is removed, it is found that the built-in length and width of the phone are reduced by about 2mm relative to the overall size of the phone. The overall length of the phone's chin is 1cm. Since the microphone and charging port of Lumia 950XL are both at the bottom, a part of the space needs to be occupied to ensure that these accessories can be accommodated in the phone and do not affect the work. The space of 0.8cm is already the limit for accommodating these electronic components, and this includes not only the microphone, but also many other components occupying this space below. Domestic mobile phones with virtual keys, such as Huawei and HTC, generally place the speaker at the bottom of the phone, and the charging port is also at the bottom, so the microphone, speaker, antenna, charging port and other electronic components will be integrated at the bottom, which means that the length of the phone's chin can no longer be simplified. (As shown in the disassembled HTC in the figure below) Another reason is for aesthetic reasons . Because there is an upper forehead, for aesthetic reasons, the lower chin must not be shorter than the forehead above the screen. Since there are earpieces, cameras, distance sensors and other accessories above the screen, it is destined that the forehead above the screen cannot be removed, which leads to the existence of the chin. Secondly, because of the front composition, the screen, as the first element of the mobile phone, cannot be located below the center. (Below is a simple drawing of the appearance of the mobile phone when the chin is lower than the upper forehead for everyone to appreciate) The last reason is that when the user holds the mobile phone, there must be a part of the area below the screen without any touch points. This area is used to facilitate hand holding. There is no touch sensor at the bottom of the phone and a certain area is reserved to ensure that the user can use it as a good grip point in landscape mode to prevent misoperation. Of course, there are some less important reasons, but in general, it will take some time for the phone's chin to disappear. Nowadays, for various reasons, the phone's chin cannot be removed, nor can it be too short.
