It may not be a secret that Google has its own to-do system (Google Tasks), but it has only been officially accessible from the Google Calendar web interface and unofficially from third-party apps that have tried to provide a need that Google has so far ignored. There have been many requests from Google users for Google to provide an official mobile app for Google Tasks. Now that day has finally arrived. The best thing about Google Tasks is that if you have a Google account, you’re already ready to use it. Bonus if you’ve actually used the Google Calendar Tasks feature before. Just install the app and it automatically detects your Google account, requiring almost no installation. In fact, it doesn’t even have the usual getting started tutorial. Tasks immediately transfers you to the screen for viewing and adding tasks. If you’re familiar with Google’s apps anyway, then you might find it a bit out of place. Google Tasks has a weird design that barely adopts Google’s own material design language, and it’s a small, green, clean program. It also has the animations that Google likes to use. The appeal of Google Tasks is probably simplicity. The default behavior is to add a task and you're done. Need to add a due date or a note? You can do that, too. Want separate lists for personal and work tasks? Easy peasy. You can even add subtasks if you want. That's pretty much all Google Tasks does right now. No timed reminders, no priorities, although you can reorder tasks as you see fit by pressing and holding an item until you can drag it up or down in the list. For now, at least in terms of functionality, Google Tasks can hardly match more powerful applications like Todoist. Even Microsoft's To-Do can easily surpass Google Tasks. The biggest advantage of Google Tasks is its simplicity.
