Apple recently released a beta version of iOS 9 and recommended that users try the system on a backup device. According to Re/code editor Lauren Goode's experience, users should not upgrade to iOS 9 on their primary device. While downloading and installing iOS 9, the iPhone 6 lost its cellular signal. This is not surprising. Users have also complained about signal loss after some previous iOS upgrades. In fact, Goode did not succeed in getting iOS 9 to work on her phone. After the software download lasted from noon to 1:30 p.m., she received an error message: The update could not be installed. She made a phone call and then tried to install the update again. Suddenly, her iPhone 6 lost its connection. After a hard reboot, the phone displayed the words "Searching for signal" for several hours. During this time, she took the train home, but she could not use the mobile network, WiFi network, personal hotspot service, send or receive text messages and emails. After returning home, she tried to reset the network settings of her phone and removed and inserted the SIM card, but the signal was still not restored. Verizon customer service said Goode's cell phone service was normal and had not been shut down for any reason, and all base stations near her were normal. Everyone felt very strange. Goode told them that she had tried to install iOS 9 before, but failed. Verizon then helped her contact Apple technical support. A technician from Apple said it was due to a software upgrade and advised her to do a clean restore of the iPhone from iTunes. Restoring her iPhone eventually fixed all the issues, and Goode got a signal again (though Messages still wasn't syncing between her iPhone and computer). Because she had backed up her phone using iCloud before the upgrade, she didn't lose any data. After that, Good successfully installed the iOS 9 beta on her iPad Air. Therefore, she has tried some features of iOS 9. So, is it worth upgrading now? She believes that the new search function is the most important upgrade of iOS 9. Currently, when users swipe left or pull down from the top of the screen, Siri will display suggested apps and contacts, nearby restaurants and gas stations, and some other news. If users search for certain keywords, such as "party" or the name "Walter," they will also see related contacts, messages, calendar events, and major websites containing these keywords. Part of the improvement in search is “deep linking,” a technique that catalogs content within apps to deliver search results quickly. Apple's new News app is beautiful, but it's not worth the risk of upgrading the system. iOS 9 also provides traffic transfer information for Notes and Maps, but these features can be understood through the new OS X "El Capitan" system. Some adjustments will benefit heavy iPad users. For example, users can turn the iPad keyboard into a trackpad. Currently, this function works normally, but users need some time to get used to it. In addition, users can also display two apps on the iPad in split screen. iOS 9 is still an early beta version, so it is not mature. Good has not yet successfully upgraded to iOS 9 on his iPhone. So is it worth upgrading now? Good said she would never rush to try it again, and she wouldn't encourage others to try it. |
