The thief is panicking! iOS15 can also remotely locate the phone even when it is turned off

In iOS 15, Apple has made upgrades to the Find My app, including support for real-time location and a new feature that can track an iPhone even if it’s erased or turned off.

Real-time location updates are mainly launched for friends or family. When users use the Find App to check the location of friends or family (provided that friends have shared their real-time location with you), their location information will be continuously updated instead of refreshing it every few minutes.

In fact, you can refer to the "Share Real-time Location" function on WeChat for this function. When you go to an unfamiliar place to meet a friend, you can use this function to quickly find your friend's location.

In addition, the Find My feature in iOS 15 also supports tracking devices that are turned off. In iOS 14 and earlier systems, if the iPhone device is turned off, the user can only see the last location displayed before the iPhone was turned off in the Find My app. In iOS 15, even if the iPhone is turned off, it can still be found as long as it is close to another Apple device.

Does this feature look familiar to you? Yes, the working principle is similar to the anti-lost device AirTag that Apple just launched this year. When our AirTag is lost, it will automatically send the location information to the owner when it is close to other Apple devices.

The iPhone should also use this principle. We all know that iPhone 11 and above models can swipe the bus card even when they are out of power and turned off (within 5 hours). This also means that the iPhone will continue to power the Bluetooth components even when it is turned off. The search function should also be realized through this principle.

The editor also shut down two iPhones that had been upgraded to iOS 15 beta4 for testing. When the iPhone 12 Pro Max was shut down, there would be a prompt that “iPhone can still be found after being shut down”, but there was no such prompt when the iPhone 8P was shut down.

Of course, not only when the iPhone is turned off, but even if it is erased, you can still find it in the search function. How is this different from the previous "ID lock"?

In iOS 14 and previous iOS systems, once your iPhone is erased by the other party, even though there is an ID lock, you will not be able to view the location of your iPhone in the network search.

In the latest iOS 15 system, even if the other party erases your iPhone, as long as the ID lock is still there, you can still check the location of this iPhone in the "Find" app. And after the user turns on the phone, the screen will clearly show "Hello" that your device has been locked and can be located, and inform the other party that the device still belongs to you.

Some people may ask, according to the current iOS system security mechanism, don’t you have to enter the Apple ID password before you can successfully erase the iPhone? This also means that the user needs to know the ID password before he can erase the iPhone, and after erasing it, the ID lock will be removed.

In fact, this function is used when we remotely erase the iPhone. If we are worried that thieves may crack the screen password and spy on our privacy, we can use the search function to remotely erase the iPhone. After erasing, the lost iPhone lock screen will prompt the user that the location of this iPhone will be visible to the owner.

Additionally, if you lose your AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, you can use Find My to get their approximate location. This will help you get into range of their Bluetooth signal so you can play a sound to find them.
