Amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, luxury brands have closed their stores in major affected countries to curb the spread of the virus, and production factories have also had to stop to ensure the health of their employees.

Chanel recently announced that it has ceased production and will gradually close its production bases in France, Italy and Switzerland for two weeks. These include production lines for Chanel watches, haute couture, ready-to-wear and high-end jewellery. Chanel said some distribution bases are still operating with minimal worker involvement and the company has provided additional health and safety protections for these employees.

During this period, CHANEL is not the only luxury brand that has taken measures to stop production. Shortly before this, Gucci also closed its factories in Tuscany and Marche. As Italy is still in lockdown, the closure period originally scheduled for March 20 may be extended.

French luxury group Hermes also closed 42 production bases in France until March 30.

Prior to this, CHANEL also canceled its early spring resort fashion show originally scheduled for Capri in May. In a related statement, it said that the brand is looking for a more appropriate time and way to restart the resort show in Carpi. Chanel also announced that it would postpone the revival show of the 2019/20 "Paris-31 Rue Cambon" Haute Couture collection, originally scheduled for June 4 in London, England. Other brands that have postponed or canceled their 2021 early spring resort shows due to the epidemic include Gucci, Versace, Max Mara and Hermès.
