Reporters learned from the Wuyishan National Park Administration that researchers recently discovered a new insect species, the "Chinese assassin bug," during a baseline survey of biological resources within the national park. The research findings have been published in the international academic journal *Asia-Pacific Entomological Journal*.

Chen Zhuo, one of the discoverers of the new species and a doctoral student in the Department of Entomology at China Agricultural University, explained that the resin bug is a special predatory group within the insect family. Because of their unique habit of collecting and using exogenous plant resin to capture prey, they are also known as resin bugs. The resin bug tribe is a rare group within the large family of assassin bugs.

Li Hu, a professor in the Department of Entomology at China Agricultural University, told reporters that the newly discovered "Chinese Assassin Bug" belongs to the genus *Assassin Bug* and is the first species of this genus recorded in my country. The discovery of "Chinese Assassin Bug" not only enriches the geographical distribution and species diversity of insects in the Wuyi Mountains, but also has significant implications for studying the distribution and evolutionary history of insect flora in the Oriental region.

To further understand the baseline of biological resources and assess the effectiveness of conservation and management, Wuyishan National Park launched a baseline survey of amphibian and reptile resources in April 2020 and a three-year baseline survey of biological resources in April 2021, respectively. To date, the baseline survey of biological resources in Wuyishan National Park (including the amphibian and reptile survey) has discovered 12 new species, involving higher plants, insects, macrofungi, and other groups.
