According to the German newspaper Bild, a 60-year-old male tortoise in Germany had been in a relationship with a slipper for 30 years, until recently encountering a true mate, an 80-year-old female tortoise.

This male tortoise named Susi has been in a relationship with a slipper for 30 years.
This tortoise, named Susi, comes from Soltau, a small town between Hamburg and Hanover. In 1983, at the age of 30, just entering puberty, she fell in love with her owner's pale purple slipper. For 30 years, Susi has never been separated from the slipper; "they have a very good relationship."
Recently, when its owner brought it to the wildlife park, it abandoned its former lover, a slipper. The zoo director placed it in front of a female tortoise, and soon it crawled towards the first female of its kind it had ever seen, and began to mate. This female tortoise was already 80 years old, but tortoises have a long lifespan; some can live to be over 100 years old.
