It has been decided to postpone the World Table Tennis Team Championships originally scheduled for March 22-29, tentatively to June 21-28.

In view of the current serious situation of the new coronavirus epidemic in South Korea, and out of consideration for the safety and health of players, staff and fans, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has decided to postpone the Hana Bank 2020 World Table Tennis Team Championships originally scheduled to be held in Busan, South Korea from March 22 to 29.

Last Friday, the ITTF learned of reports of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Busan, where the tournament was held. Subsequently, the ITTF senior management held an emergency meeting with the Korea Table Tennis Association and Busan city representatives to discuss the situation regarding the Hana Bank 2020 World Team Table Tennis Championships.

The following decisions were made at the meeting and have been approved by the ITTF Executive Committee and all parties in Busan:

1. Postponement of the World Table Tennis Team Championships originally scheduled for March 22-29;

2. The event is tentatively postponed to June 21-28; at the same time, the epidemic situation will be closely monitored in the next few weeks;

In view of the uncertainty and volatility of the current domestic epidemic situation in South Korea, the International Table Tennis Federation has decided to postpone the event from the perspective of ensuring the health and safety of players, staff and fans.

The postponed World Table Tennis Team Championships overlaps with the Korea Open and Australian Open. At present, the International Table Tennis Federation is discussing and agreeing on rescheduling with the organizing committees of the two events.

The ITTF sincerely thanks the Busan local organizing committee and the Korean Table Tennis Association led by Ryu Seung-min for their outstanding professionalism in responding to this emergency. The ITTF will continue to work closely with all parties in Busan and is confident of delivering a grand World Table Tennis Championships in June.
