On March 3, the National Science Review, sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, published a paper titled "On the Origin and Ongoing Evolution of SARS-CoV-2", pointing out that through the largest molecular evolution analysis of 103 new coronavirus whole genomes to date, it was found that the new coronavirus has recently produced 149 mutation points and evolved into two subtypes, and 101 of them belong to these two subtypes.

However, on March 12, the corresponding authors of the paper, Researchers Lu Jian and Cui Jie, issued a supplementary statement saying that the word "aggressive" in the original paper was misleading and should be replaced by the more precise term "higher frequency", which would be corrected in the printed version of the paper.
