Why Blue Foods Suppress Your Appetite

Why Blue Foods Suppress Your Appetite

Speaking of cola chicken wings, I believe it is a dish that many friends have cooked at home. The ingredients are ordinary, simple and easy to make, and there is no failure, so it is also one of the first dishes that many newbies must learn.

But yesterday, when I tried to make cola chicken wings at home, I failed.

The thing is, when I was cooking chicken wings at home, I asked my friend to bring me a bottle of Coke. Unexpectedly, he actually brought me a bottle of blue Coke.

I admit that I was gambling at the time, thinking that since it was Coke anyway, the effect should be the same. After hesitating for 0.01 seconds, I poured the blue Coke into the pot.

Blue bubbles were looming in the rising white mist. As the soup gradually became thicker, the appearance of the pot of chicken wings gradually became clear.

What was presented to us was a plate of blue chicken wings. My friend and I were so shocked that we were stunned. We felt a little uncomfortable because we had never experienced anything like this before. (Scared to rap)

With the mentality of being non-toxic and harmless, I picked up a chicken wing with trembling hands and took a bite. To be honest, there is no obvious difference in taste, but as long as I think of the magical color I saw when I opened the pot, I can't help but feel my stomach churning.

But I was actually doing pretty well, because in the early 1970s, a similar study was published in the magazine Fast Food Nation. Special lighting was installed in the experimental room to change the color of the food.

The subjects were then given steak and fries that looked normal in color. Under the lighting effects of the room, all the subjects thought the food was good and delicious.

But when the lighting effects were turned off and everyone saw the steak in front of them turn blue and the fries turn green, most people felt nauseous and had a long-term loss of appetite, and some subjects even became sick.

The ingredients are still the same, and the methods of cooking are still the same, but the change in color causes a series of reactions in the body. What is the reason?

I believe that you, as a smart person, must know that color not only affects appetite, but also has a great impact.

For example, the blue mentioned in the experiment above is the color of death for food, because basically nothing can escape the blue curse.

If you still don’t believe it, come and try the blue burger from the legendary Parisian boutique Colette.

How is it, do you have an appetite? Do you want to order a song called "What You See in Me is Blue"?

Just like the song goes, the mention of blue makes people feel calm or even sad. This is determined by our physiological structure. Among the different wavelengths of light, the blue light band is the easiest to activate the melanopsin photosensitive system. It awakens the cerebral cortex and suppresses appetite.

And in nature, there are actually very few blue foods, most of which are poisonous or rotten. So in the process of human evolution, we gradually show a rejection of blue foods.

Since there are colors that we instinctively reject, there must be colors that are friendly to our appetite. Here I will highlight McDonald's and KFC.

The red and yellow design of the store and the color matching of the food are very impressive, making me feel like I haven't eaten every time I pass by. Although my stomach is full, my mind keeps telling me that I can eat a little more.

And now many restaurants on the market use yellow and red in their signs and logos. This is also based on our color psychology.

Science has proven that red attracts more attention. When we stare at red, the blood flow in the human body speeds up. The metabolism and heart rate speed up, which stimulates people's appetite and creates hunger.

Yellow itself is also a very bright and warm color that is also exciting and cheerful. Especially when used with red, it makes us visually and psychologically want to stop and eat.

This phenomenon is called the ketchup and mustard theory by visual communication experts. So, take a closer look at how well-intentioned (xian) and painstaking (e) these businesses are in using the yellow and red color combination.

At first, there were some companies that were not convinced, such as Heinz, which went against the trend and launched purple, pink, orange, turquoise and blue ketchup. In the end, they took the product off the shelves and stopped doing anything weird and continued to sell red ketchup.

So if you want to lose weight but feel that your appetite is too good to control, maybe you can try making the food in your hand blue?
