The China Earthquake Networks Center officially determined that a 4.8-magnitude earthquake occurred at 22:46 on February 28 in Luding County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan (29.63 degrees north latitude, 102.01 degrees east longitude), with a focal depth of 8 kilometers. It is understood that the earthquake was felt in many places in Sichuan, including Chengdu, Meishan, Ya'an, and Mianyang.

According to the Propaganda Department of Ganzi Prefecture Committee and the Propaganda Department of Ya'an Municipal Committee, as of 23:00 on February 28, no casualties had been reported in Ganzi and Ya'an.
