How long does it take for the skin to recover from a tan? Medical research shows that the skin's metabolic cycle is 28 days. The so-called skin metabolic cycle refers to the process by which skin cells are generated by the division of basal cells, and then gradually push up the surface layer, while the cells on the surface of the skin gradually age and become a new stratum corneum, and the original stratum corneum falls off, completing a metabolism, and this process takes at least 28 days to complete.

Therefore, after the skin is tanned, the tanned epidermal cells cannot recover, but need to keratinize and then fall off and be replaced by new skin cells, so that the skin will gradually return to its original state.

Of course, the recovery time is different for everyone. The skin's ability to absorb ultraviolet rays is different from its ability to reduce melanin. On the one hand, it depends on the degree of tanning, and on the other hand, it is also related to the individual's body constitution and maintenance. If the degree of tanning is very light, it can usually be recovered in two to three months as long as you pay more attention to daily skin care, such as applying sunscreen, moisturizing lotion, etc. If the tanning is serious, it will take six months or a year to recover.
