A malicious software called Superfish (called spyware by foreign media) has caused huge troubles for Lenovo Group , damaged its brand image, and caused lawsuits. Once bitten, one becomes afraid of ropes for ten years. Lenovo Group has begun to reflect on its software pre-installation strategy. It recently publicly promised that it will remove all unnecessary third-party software in its Windows 10 computer products to provide users with a clean computer. The Superfish adware contains a vulnerability that allows hackers to launch SSL man-in-the-middle attacks, resulting in the theft of encrypted data. Consumers and law firms in the United States have already filed a class action lawsuit. Lenovo Group first announced consumer compensation. For consumers affected by the Supuerfish software, Lenovo will provide six months of McAfeeLiveSafe security software service (existing users will receive an additional six months of service). Details of this service will be announced on Lenovo Group's official website within a week. Lenovo said that after this incident, the company will significantly reduce pre-installed software and hopes to provide consumers with safer and cleaner personal computers. Lenovo said that when it releases a new Windows 10 product, Lenovo will only pre-install the Windows 10 operating system and related software, as well as the software necessary for the hardware operation (for example, if the computer is equipped with a 3D camera, Lenovo will pre-install software related to it), as well as security software and Lenovo official software. This will eliminate what the industry calls "adware" and "bloatware" (complex features that far exceed what users need) from Lenovo's future products. Lenovo also added that in some countries, some software that consumers expect will be pre-installed, but did not specify which countries or what software. Lenovo said it will provide detailed information on all pre-installed software, describing the specific functions and uses of each software. After the Superfish scandal broke out, Lenovo Group’s official website was attacked by the well-known online hacker group “Lizard Squad”, which intercepted Lenovo’s internal employee emails. The group even threatened that more interesting content would be revealed in the future.
