On March 12, a reporter from Chao News came to the western suburbs of Hangzhou and recommended a niche place for cherry blossom viewing - the Xishan Forest Area of Yuhang Changle Forest Farm.

There is a small valley in front of the Xishan Forestry District, with a crescent-shaped reservoir at one end. Dozens of native cherry blossoms in red, pink and white are blooming in the surrounding mountains and fields.

The spring breeze is blowing, petals are falling, and romantic flowers are blooming alone, but no tourists have come to appreciate them yet.

Chao News reporter met Li Yingang, a cherry blossom breeding expert from Zhejiang Academy of Forestry here.

This Cherry Blossom Valley is a native cherry blossom resource bank jointly built by the Provincial Academy of Forestry and Changle Forest Farm. The new varieties of fragrant cherry blossoms selected and bred by the Provincial Academy of Forestry are cultivated near the valley.

In the past two years, experts have been collecting cherry germplasm resources across the country and discovered that China's native cherry blossoms have some relatively good traits. For example, some bloom earlier than Somei Yoshino and some flowers have some fragrance.

In order to allow more excellent native cherry blossom varieties to bloom all over China, the Provincial Academy of Forestry and the Cherry Blossom Industry Alliance have developed a new variety called "Snail Noodles".

Why does such a beautiful flower have such a stinky name?

Li Yingang told the Chao News reporter: "The new variety of cherry blossoms has a strong fragrance. From a distance, it may smell like snail rice noodle, so it is named 'snail rice noodle'."

During the breeding process, researchers collected a total of 117 excellent ornamental cherry plants.

Among them, there are some better resources, some of which have a more elegant fragrance. Li Yingang said that the one with an elegant fragrance may be reported to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration for the national plant variety rights next year.

I believe that in the next few years, new varieties of "snail noodles" cherry blossom and fresh "snail noodles" will also flow into the market and be appreciated by everyone.
