Infrastructure maniac, he has his own tricks for sand control!

In recent years, going to the desert for fun has become very popular. Instead of going to crowded places, more people choose to go to the vast northern land to enjoy the desert scenery where "sand marks look like waves"!

But then again, there is a big contrast between watching the video and eating sand on site. So after the experience, everyone still hopes that this desert can be cured. After all, even if it is to develop the economy, the green one can make people richer than the yellow one.

When it comes to successful governance and the feat of turning deserts into oases, many people probably think of the Maowusu Desert. In the eyes of foreigners, it is another typical case of a infrastructure maniac. Maowusu is said to be called "bad water" in Mongolian, which sounds like it is not a good thing. This place is located in the southeast of the Ordos Plateau and the line of the Great Wall in northern Shaanxi. It was once one of the four major sandy lands in my country, with a total area of 42,200 square kilometers, which is almost the area of 3 Beijings.

Half of its area is in Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, so Yulin City is also called Tuocheng, which means Desert City. This important town has been relocated three times due to desert invasion, but the sand still follows to the base of the city wall and piles up as high as the top of the city wall. Although the people of Yulin have been fighting, it is a pity that they cannot win.

It was not until 1959 that people organized themselves again and vigorously built windbreaks, diverted water and sand, diverted floodwaters and silted land, and gradually carried out a series of large-scale projects to transform the desert. But planting trees in the desert is simply going against nature. A large number of local desert control heroes spent decades repeatedly researching and planting trees, tamarisks, grasslands, etc., and relying on simple equipment to build roads, dig wells, and develop irrigated land.

You must be wondering what kind of black technology has been developed? I'm sure there is none! However, the absence of black technology is the biggest black technology. When it comes to desert control, it requires not only technology but also patience and perseverance. After some unremitting efforts, the Maowusu Desert has been effectively controlled. Soil and water are no longer lost, and many sandy lands have been turned into woodlands, grasslands and fertile fields. Yulin City has also opened up fields in the heart of the desert, and the "desert capital" has become a "desert oasis".

Then we must quickly promote the experience of Maowusu and treat Taklimakan Desert as well. Well, the difficulty is really not of the same order of magnitude. Why do you say that? You know, 70,000 years ago, Maowusu was not a desert. At that time, the water and grass here were sweet, and the cattle and sheep were fat. Our ancestors, the Hetao people, lived on this beautiful and lush grassland.

During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, the great hero Helian Bobo was so impressed by the beauty and richness of Ordos that he established the Xiongnu Great Xia Kingdom here, with its capital in the Ordos grassland. However, what awaited this land after that was endless wars and excessive reclamation and nomadism. Under the ruthless trampling of war, iron hooves, and excessive reclamation and deforestation, this fertile land eventually turned into sand, gradually dried up, and gradually formed a desert.

In other words, the Maowusu Desert is not a natural desert. It has a large area of fixed and semi-fixed sand dunes, and was originally an area with relatively developed animal husbandry. The key is that the climate conditions in Maowusu are not bad. There are four distinct seasons here, with an average annual temperature of 6 to 8 or 9 degrees Celsius, and an average temperature of 22 or 23 degrees in July. When the annual precipitation is high, it can reach about 440 mm. Such a climate is very conducive to the growth of plants.

For naturally formed deserts like the Taklimakan Desert, we need to find the right remedies, such as mining energy, building photovoltaic power stations, constructing super projects, etc. In short, there are many ways to scientifically control and use sand!
