Why do some people become more and more addicted to teeth cleaning? It may not be the teeth's fault

This is the 4823rd article of Da Yi Xiao Hu

Friends who have read the previous magazine article should know that children also need to use fluoride ointment, and rinsing with white vinegar cannot remove dental calculus. There are really many misunderstandings about oral health care, and today we are going to talk about the most serious one - "the more you wash your teeth, the more 'addicted' you become."

Many friends who have seen the dentist may have had this experience: after checking the teeth, the doctor will give a suggestion, which is to wash the teeth. However, the advice given by people around you is likely to be that it is best not to wash your teeth, otherwise you will become more and more "addicted" and "unable to quit"!

Is teeth cleaning really addictive?

There may be three reasons why people feel more and more "addicted" to teeth cleaning: first, after experiencing teeth cleaning, the most profound (no other) oral cleaning method, patients have higher requirements for oral hygiene and often want to do a "spring cleaning" of the mouth regularly; second, teeth cleaning can only delay the formation of dental plaque and tartar, but cannot completely eliminate these two situations. Therefore, it is inevitable that dental plaque and tartar will return after teeth cleaning, so it is also necessary to remove the tartar again; third, if the teeth cleaning operation is not perfect and the final teeth polishing step is missing, tartar is more likely to form again.

Therefore, the so-called "addiction" to teeth cleaning is not the fault of teeth cleaning, but the inevitable result of the combined effect of many objective factors.

Teeth that need to be cleaned must be cleaned!

Even though many people understand that teeth cleaning is not really "addictive", they still worry about whether it is necessary. As one of the means of dental care, teeth cleaning is mainly responsible for preventing periodontitis and even treating periodontitis (one of the basic treatment measures). Therefore, patients with periodontitis must not reject or refuse teeth cleaning.

Therefore, determining whether periodontitis exists is one of the criteria for deciding whether teeth cleaning is needed.

The main symptoms of periodontitis are gingival bleeding, periodontal pocket formation, alveolar bone resorption, and loose and displaced teeth. Gingival bleeding mainly reflects the inflammatory state of the gingival tissue. On the premise of excluding systemic diseases, it can basically be used as the gold standard for judging gingival inflammation. Gingival inflammation can be a symptom of both gingivitis and periodontitis, so simply looking at gingival bleeding cannot determine whether periodontitis exists.

The three symptoms that determine whether periodontitis has occurred and its severity are periodontal pocket formation, alveolar bone absorption, and loose and displaced teeth (a professional doctor is required to make a careful examination to make a judgment). If you refuse to have your teeth cleaned when the above symptoms appear, you are just throwing yourself into a fire pit.

It is worth noting that because bleeding gums can be a symptom of gingivitis or an early sign of periodontitis, doctors usually recommend teeth cleaning when bleeding gums occur frequently or severely.

In addition, completely removing dental plaque is also one of the goals of teeth cleaning. Patients who already have dental plaque cannot refuse teeth cleaning, otherwise the dental plaque will only accumulate more and more, and the harm to dental health will only become greater and greater.

In short, for people with healthy periodontal health, teeth cleaning is the icing on the cake, and it is harmless not to clean your teeth. As long as you insist on brushing your teeth correctly, you can achieve the purpose of health care; but for people with periodontal disease, brushing teeth alone can no longer meet the health care needs, and teeth cleaning is most likely necessary.
