As one of the most influential international sports competitions, the arrival of the 2014 Brazil World Cup is undoubtedly the hottest topic in the color TV market in recent times. Benefiting from consumers' pursuit of the "viewing attribute" of TV during the World Cup, color TV companies have linked up with football and used the high popularity of the World Cup to promote their brands. The export shipment volume of Chinese color TV manufacturers increased significantly in the first quarter of 2014, with a year-on-year growth of more than 51%. This year, the important events of the Brazil World Cup will be broadcast in 4K for the first time, making the competition in the large-screen 4K panel market enter a white-hot stage.

The overseas market is booming and the export volume of complete machine manufacturers has increased significantly.

Television sets have always been a hot commodity during the World Cup. Data from the AVC industry chain shows that the export volume of the six major TV manufacturers in the first quarter of 2014 reached 3.8 million units, a year-on-year increase of 51%; the export volume in the first half of 2014 is expected to exceed 8.8 million units, a year-on-year increase of 38%.

The 4K TV market is experiencing a boom.

This year, FIFA has confirmed that three key matches of the Brazil World Cup, including the final, will be broadcast using 4K technology, which is undoubtedly a shot in the arm for 4K TV manufacturers. Thanks to the active promotion of ultra-high-definition panels by upstream panel manufacturers and the promotional activities launched by major manufacturers around the World Cup, AVC predicts that the number of panels shipped by upstream panel manufacturers to mainland China in 2014 will reach 13.5 million pieces, and the retail volume of UHD terminals is expected to exceed 10 million units.

 

The World Cup has boosted sales of large-screen color TVs.

As people's living standards continue to improve, 50-inch, 55-inch and even larger color TVs have become popular. Driven by the World Cup effect, the overall sales penetration rate of UHD has risen, reaching a periodic peak of 17.3% and 16.3% in May and June, igniting the large-screen ultra-high-definition color TV market.

 

The upcoming World Cup in Brazil will have a strong pull on TV sales, and is a rare market breakthrough for upstream screen manufacturers and color TV manufacturers in difficult times, which will help the color TV market gradually recover in the second half of the year. For color TV companies, at this point of the World Cup, in addition to using the World Cup as a powerful promotional theme, they should also think about how to build an open platform, make products extremely simple, and maximize the experience to attract consumers to the greatest extent.
