What is "19"

In fact, "Yijiu" is a traditional folk saying. Through observation and summary, ancient people used "Yijiu, Erjiu, Sanjiu, Forty-nine, Fifty-nine, Sixty-nine, Seventy-nine, Eighty-nine, and Ninety-nine" to describe the changes in the cold weather in winter.

The winter solstice of each year is regarded as the beginning of the new year. Starting from the winter solstice, the weather changes are described in units of nine days, among which the first six nine-day periods are the coldest period in winter.

"No action in 1929"

During the periods of Cold Dew, Frost Descent, Light Snow and Heavy Snow, the temperature is barely acceptable. The temperature in some areas remains above zero and only drops below zero at night. Starting from the first day after the winter solstice, "Yijiu" refers to the first to ninth day after the winter solstice. This stage marks the beginning of cold weather and the temperature gradually drops.

By the "Erjiu", which is the tenth to eighteenth day after the winter solstice, the temperature continues to drop. "Don't go out on the 19th and 29th", which means the cold winter has just begun.

"Walking on the Ice on the 39th and 49th Days"

The "Three Nines" refers to the 19th to 27th day after the winter solstice, when the temperature drops further and the coldness is less severe than the "Two Nines". The "Four Nines" refers to the 28th to 36th day after the winter solstice, which is the coldest time of the winter.

"Watching the willows along the river on May 9th and June 9th"

By the "59th day", which is the 37th to 45th day after the winter solstice, the temperature begins to rise. Although it is still cold, the breath of spring can already be felt.

The last is "Six Nine", which is the 46th to the 54th day after the winter solstice. The temperature continues to rise and the degree of coldness further weakens.

"Seventy-nine Rivers Open"

The rivers bloom on the 79th day of the lunar calendar. With the change of the solar terms, it is not so cold anymore. The sunshine during the day is even a little hot. Many young guys don’t even need down jackets, and there are green plants in the fields.

"August and September Swallows Come"

The swallows fly back to the south for the winter. When they reach the eighth "nine days", the swallows also fly back from the south. Because the temperature at this time has returned to normal, the swallows can live normally and prey on insects. The small insects begin to move.

"Peach Blossoms Bloom at the End of September"

When you count to Jiujiu, it is around the time of "Qingzhe". Counting from the first day after the winter solstice, there are a total of eighty-one days. At this time, spring is deep and the days are warm, and people can walk in thin clothes. Around the Jingzhe, thunder can be heard on Jiujiu, and the sound lasts for a long time. With the nourishment of rain, all things will speed up the rhythm of recovery.
