Who can be the game changer in the face of the system flaws of smart TVs?

In today's world where everything is intelligent, the development of television towards intelligence is a natural trend. However, whether it is the intelligent transformation of traditional TV manufacturers or the Internet thinking of new TV brands, smart TVs always make people feel that they are not smart enough.

The hardware is powerful enough and the content is rich enough. The reason is that the system design may be the common flaw in current smart TV products.

There is UI, but is there experience?

The emergence of Android has lowered the threshold for smart devices. Similarly, combining the Android system with televisions has become an important means of popularizing smart TVs.

Unlike mobile devices that have existed since the birth of Android, the usage scenarios of TV are more special. It is not a device that you can carry with you, nor does it have the touch operation familiar to Android. This makes many smart TV systems at this stage closer to the Windows Metro style with large icons and tiles in design.

But just looking good is not enough. How to coordinate with the TV remote control? What innovations will be made in the operation of smart TVs? Should touch and voice technology appear in smart TVs? These are all issues that manufacturers should think about.

Therefore, most of the current smart TVs are either too conservative and fail to make users feel the intelligence, or too bold and radical and out of touch with the actual usage scenarios of the TV.

Internet brands may have already divided the smart TV system market into three parts

When it comes to smart TV systems, the first ones to impress people are often some emerging Internet TV brands.

Indeed, Xiaomi, which started out as a mobile phone system, has extended MIUI to large-screen TVs through products such as Xiaomi TVs and boxes. The long Launcher has become a well-known feature of Xiaomi MIUI TV version.

LeTV, which uses "ecosystem" as its banner, has also established a place for EUI in the smart TV system with its super TV products. The development model combined with its own content makes LeTV's system more inclined towards content integration.

But in fact, looking at the development history of domestic smart TVs, Coocaa, which was born out of a traditional TV brand, is the first company in the industry to plan and develop TV systems. The Coocaa system it developed has accumulated a large number of users over time, and is now officially ushering in its fifth generation.

To speed up the smart TV system, should we add or subtract?

There are enough people paying attention to smart TVs, and more and more Internet blood is injecting more vitality into the smart TV system, but many people still feel that current TVs are not good enough, which is undoubtedly a problem that needs to be reflected upon.

Regarding how to improve the experience on smart TV systems, most manufacturers are happy to add on to the original systems, and constantly show more functions to users in interface and UI design. As an Internet-connected device, smart TVs can bring users more content resources to enjoy, which is naturally a good thing. This is why Xiaomi was willing to invest one billion US dollars in the video industry to create content.

But adding more features to the TV has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, considering the usage scenarios of the TV, whether users are willing to accept numerous and complex projects on the big screen is a question. Secondly, the hardware configuration and performance of TVs of different brands and prices vary greatly. More projects will inevitably bring a greater burden to the system operation. For smart TVs, which are generally not mature enough, this is obviously not a good thing in terms of the efficiency of the system operation.

Compared to Xiaomi and LeTV, which are constantly holding press conferences, Coocaa, which has always been low-key, recently officially launched its new 5.0 system. Compared with the number 5.0, what is more noteworthy is that some manufacturers have finally started to make subtractions in their smart TV systems.

The four major concepts of Coocaa 5.0 system UI design are "only for users", "clear logic", "convenient operation" and the lightness of the system itself. The most intuitive change is that the system homepage is no longer occupied by complex recommended content. The section functions are arranged in the form of cards, which simplifies the operation logic and reduces the psychological pressure of users when using it.

In terms of operation, the Coocaa 5.0 system emphasizes people-oriented, sets a central point, and adds a stack-style task management method that allows users to easily switch between multiple tasks or remove programs running in the background from the system. It is similar to the usage methods of traditional devices such as Apple and Android that users are familiar with, reducing the user's entry cost.

In addition to the system itself, how the system and hardware work together is also particularly important. By modifying the optimization at the driver level, the CPU is kept at the optimal frequency, and the GPU is fully utilized for graphics drawing. With the help of chips with hardware acceleration capabilities and other measures, Coocaa has also carried out deeper optimization within the system, providing a stable basic condition for the smooth operation of the system.

After competing on hardware and price, it’s time to compete on experience

Just like Apple phones are inseparable from the excellent iOS system, hardware is the foundation and software determines the quality of the experience.

Although smart TV is no longer a new concept, the increasing number of brands joining the market also shows that smart TV has great potential in the future.

But just like our personal smartphones, after competing in hardware and price, perhaps the smart TV operating system and who can provide users with an excellent experience are the most important factors that ultimately determine who will have the last laugh in the market.

Faced with what people consider to be the system flaws of smart TVs, we look forward to the emergence of a game-changer.
