Recently, according to foreign media reports, Toyota Motor Corporation plans to adjust its investment portfolio and the production ratio of cars and trucks in the US market. It is reported that Toyota plans to adjust the ratio from 50:50 to 60:40 to increase the production of light trucks. As part of this plan, Toyota has its secret weapon: the CH-R series, which was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show this month. The CH-R series is a subcompact crossover that is expected to be popular when it goes on sale next spring. Bill Fay, Toyota's general manager for the U.S., said: "Toyota rarely has a vehicle like this on the market, but we are optimistic based on the feedback we have received early on." The new CH-R series will compete with the Chevrolet Trax, Nissan Juke, Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3 series, and the series is highly anticipated by dealers. It is reported that the new CH-R series is crucial for Toyota to enter the market of young car owners, who prefer streamlined small multi-purpose vehicles. In addition, dealers also have an unusually high demand for Toyota's crossover, SUV and pickup truck series. Fay said: "I am very optimistic about the outlook for 2017 because our RAV and Highlander series of models are in sufficient supply, and the CH-R series will be launched next year, meeting the needs of consumers for versatile models." As Toyota's truck production plants in San Antonio, Tijuana and Mexico are approaching capacity, sales of its popular Tacoma mid-size pickup series and full-size Tundra series will be limited in the future due to supply issues. As Toyota plans to sell more pickup trucks next year, the expanded production of Tacoma models at the Tijuana plant may not be realized until the end of 2017 or even early 2018, which means that the supply of Tacoma series will still face shortages next year. Fay said Toyota has no problem adjusting production ratios, mainly because its production capacity in North America can meet its needs. "It's very important to us that we have the ability to adjust our production ratio without laying off employees," Fay said. General Motors announced this month that it would lay off 2,000 employees due to reduced market demand.
