The country's first self-driving taxi was put into trial operation in Guangzhou, with the same fare as ordinary taxis

On November 1, Guangzhou Public Transport Group Baiyun Company launched the country's first self-driving taxi and began trial operation in the University Town on the same day.

The fare of this self-driving taxi is the same as that of traditional taxis. You only need to place an order through the APP or mini program to experience the self-driving taxi with a starting price of 12 yuan.

Starting from November 1, Guangzhou Public Transport Group Baiyun Company will arrange a two-hour trial operation of self-driving taxis in the core area of University Town from 14:00 to 16:00 every day, and will set up special personnel at Exit C of University Town North Station and the main entrance of Guangzhou University to introduce and guide citizens to take self-driving taxis.

Next, the operating time and scope of self-driving taxis will be gradually expanded in the university town, and eventually in the entire city.

The car is equipped with 2 laser radars, 3 professional cameras and 1 millimeter-wave radar, which can achieve 360-degree all-round perception. The model selected for the car is the GAC New Energy GE3 pure electric intelligent SUV.

Self-driving taxis can implement mode switching. When someone intervenes in the intelligent system of self-driving, the vehicle can immediately switch to normal mode. Therefore, self-driving taxis can provide services to citizens like other cruising cars during the rest of the time outside of trial operation.

To ensure the safety of consumers, each self-driving taxi currently launched has a professional safety officer, who comes from the operating driver team and has a taxi operating service qualification certificate. Before officially becoming a safety officer, the safety officer has received more than 200 hours of self-driving car safety officer technical training from WeRide.ai engineers to ensure the safety of driving and passengers.

WeRide.ai, which provides technical support for self-driving taxis, started the country's first regular trial operation of driverless cars on Bio Island this year and has accumulated rich road testing experience.
