Borrowing eggs to lay "chickens", China launches new charging pile technology to encourage car owners to use excess electricity to make a profit

Speaking of "reverse charging", this function, which has become a standard feature in the mobile phone industry, has now quietly appeared in the emerging field of electric vehicles.

Recently, a new type of vehicle-grid interactive charging pile was put into pilot testing in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City. According to the official description, when users connect their electric vehicles to the new vehicle-grid interactive charging pile, in addition to the common charging functions, the electric vehicle can also be transformed from a means of transportation into a "power bank", which can reversely send power to the grid connected to the charging pile to support emergency power demand when the grid fails. At the same time, the car owner can also earn a certain peak-valley electricity price difference.

As for the income, it is noted that the price difference between the peak and trough of industrial electricity consumption in Tianjin is basically maintained at 0.5-0.9 yuan per kWh. Based on this premise, considering that the battery capacity of the long-range version of Tesla Model 3 is 75kWh, under ideal conditions, the owner can obtain a price difference income of about 50 yuan per day.

But it is worth noting that compared with the daily income of about 50 yuan, electric car owners may be more concerned about the battery life of their cars. Indeed, as the most important battery component of electric cars, long-term high-power charging and discharging operations will inevitably accelerate the battery loss of the car.

Admittedly, this new type of car-grid interactive charging pile may not be as easy to promote as imagined, but it is completely feasible from a technical perspective. As early as 2016, Nissan tried to launch the xStorage battery and encouraged Nissan electric vehicle users in the UK to sell their excess electricity to local power grid companies.

It can be seen that countries are now trying to transform electric vehicles into an energy storage device, and on this basis, further improve the efficiency of energy resource utilization. However, under the current environment, if you want to promote this new type of vehicle-grid interactive charging pile in China, you may first need to reduce users' range anxiety.
