State Administration for Market Regulation: A total of 233 automobile recalls were implemented in 2024, involving 11.237 million vehicles

In 2024, China's automobile production and sales will exceed 31 million units, of which new energy vehicle production and sales will exceed 12 million units for the first time. According to data released by the State Administration for Market Regulation, there were 233 automobile recalls throughout the year, involving 11.237 million vehicles, an increase of 8.9% and 67.0% respectively over the previous year.

Among them, new energy vehicles were recalled 89 times, involving 4.491 million vehicles, an increase of 180.1% year-on-year, accounting for 40.0% of the total number of recalls for the whole year.

In addition, 19 remote upgrade (OTA) recalls were implemented, involving 4.068 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 246.8%. OTA has become an important method of automobile recall.

Throughout the year, there were 26 recalls under the supervision of the State Administration for Market Regulation, involving 5.672 million vehicles, accounting for 50.5% of the total number of recalls throughout the year.

As of the end of 2024, my country has implemented a total of 3,075 automobile recalls, involving 114 million vehicles.

From the perspective of the systems involved in the defects, electrical equipment, body and braking system are the main defective components, accounting for 67.2% of the total recall number.

Among them, there were 45 recalls due to electrical equipment defects, involving 2.775 million vehicles; 24 recalls due to body defects, involving 2.624 million vehicles; and 37 recalls due to braking system defects, involving 2.149 million vehicles.

In terms of the causes of defects, there were 114 recalls due to design reasons, involving 6.819 million vehicles, accounting for 60.7% of the total recalls; there were 107 recalls due to manufacturing reasons, involving 3.473 million vehicles, accounting for 30.9% of the total recalls.
