Source code shows Google ruthlessly cuts off Android fingerprint recognition function

Before the launch of Google's new flagship Nexus 6, there have been rumors that Nexus 6 will integrate fingerprint recognition function, but the source code of Android 5.0 ASOP (Android Open Source Project) shows that there is a source code in the "Moto Shamu" source code that shows "remove fingerprint support". Moto Shamu is the development code name of Nexus 6. This source code shows that Nexus 6 was originally going to integrate fingerprint recognition function, but it was ruthlessly cut off by Google.

And Nexus 6 will not be the most affected Android smartphone. As a reference device for Android smartphones, Nexus 6 will mean that Android smartphones from other manufacturers will not be able to get native support for fingerprint recognition, at least in Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Apple has integrated fingerprint scanning into its iPhone 5S and 6 series smartphones. Previously, Samsung and HTC also integrated their own fingerprint scanning functions into their flagship phones. Unlike Apple's method of pressing the finger, HTC and Samsung achieve this by swiping the finger across the sensor.

Of course, the lack of an official Android fingerprint scanning API has never stopped OEMs from integrating their own fingerprint scanning features. However, an official API would unify the current fragmented situation of fingerprint scanning on the Android platform.
