The new year has arrived. At this time, people always look forward to the future. So, for technology enthusiasts, what new technologies are worth paying attention to in 2015? In response to this question, fastcodesign interviewed four designers from the famous design company Frog.

Clothes will become smart

In 2014, wearable devices officially entered the public's field of vision. In 2015, our clothes will be smart. "People don't want to add more devices to their lives," said Adam Pruden, senior interaction designer at Frog. "The next step is that technology is integrated into clothing to monitor your health, behavior and surrounding environment in a relatively passive way."

He mentioned the D-Shirt from French company Cityzen Siences, a T-shirt that monitors heart conditions and warns you before a heart attack. It also recharges itself when you wash it. "The hottest wearable device in 2015 may be the shirt you wear," he said.

3D printing in the kitchen

3D printing has become very popular, but it is still a bit far away for the general public. In the opinion of Eric Boam, senior interaction designer at Frog, by 2015, many people will eat their own printed food.

"We're going to eat like The Jetsons," Boam said, pointing to the ChefJet, which prints candy, and the Mellow, a smart sous vide cooker. "I think by 2015, most people are more likely to eat something 3D-printed than to buy something 3D-printed," he said.

Micro-farming will go mainstream

Hydroponics and aquaponics will be on everyone's radar in 2015. "The information we get from our clients is often indicative of a trend," said Jason Severs, executive creative director at Frog. "In 2014, we've had more than three companies requesting us to design micro farming solutions. That's a good sign that it's going to be a big thing."

Recently, Niwa, a smart potting device that uses hydroponic technology, successfully raised funds on Kickstarter. Through this device, users can use a mobile phone application to monitor the growth process of plants at any time. "This easy-to-use device will make more people interested in micro-farming. To make this possible, good design is an important lever," said Severs.

Wearables will become more useful

In 2015, wearables will get smarter and more useful. "People are frustrated with Fitbit and Fuelbands," says Allison Shoop, head of strategy at Frog. "I know I took 10,000 steps a day. So what?" The answer may be more useful devices, such as the Sensoria smart socks, the Moov AI fitness trainer, or the Leo smart leg band that provides precise movement data.
