Whether you choose Android or iOS, you may encounter Microsoft apps

Since launching its cross-platform strategy, from the earlier Office app for Android to its recently released Outlook for iOS/Android and the Windows lock screen app for Android, Microsoft is gradually fulfilling its original promise: to make Microsoft's apps ubiquitous.

According to Quartz statistics, Microsoft has launched more than a dozen Android and iOS apps this year alone, and the total number of Microsoft apps active on Google Play and Apple Store has now exceeded 100. Last year was the year with the most new apps launched by Microsoft so far. Only two months into 2015, the number of Microsoft apps has also grown significantly.

When Microsoft CEO Nadella first took office, he mentioned the strategy of bringing Microsoft services to all platforms. Now it seems that this measure is being implemented quickly. Last week alone, Microsoft first released the mobile version of Outlook based on Acompli, which received a lot of praise. Then there was news that Microsoft would acquire Sunrise, a calendar application across iOS, Android and Mac platforms. Although Microsoft has not officially announced the acquisition, according to the information obtained by Re/code, the acquisition is basically a done deal.

In addition, based on the types of applications launched by Microsoft, Re/code also analyzed that Microsoft's goal is not only to launch a batch of iOS and Android applications, but the real purpose behind it is also one of the strategies mentioned by Nadella many times - to become a powerful production tool for users and improve their production efficiency. This can be easily seen from the fact that most of the applications launched by Microsoft are office or tool applications.

Although Quartz used the title "Microsoft has released more than 100 iOS/Android apps" to emphasize the large number of Microsoft apps, Quartz also pointed out in the article that the quality and targeting of apps are also very important. After all, releasing apps to "occupy" the iOS/Android platform and continuously increase the number of apps is not the same as releasing apps to attract users to use Microsoft services on various platforms.
