Windows 10 for mobile phones is not coming this summer

On May 2, this summer, Microsoft will launch the PC version of the Windows 10 operating system, but mobile phone users may have to wait a little longer if they want to use the Windows 10 operating system.

Today, Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president of Microsoft's operating system division, explained Microsoft's Windows 10 release plan at a media event at Microsoft's annual Build developer conference. He said, "Our mobile system build process has not yet been consistent with the PC system build process. The mobile version of the system will be available later than the PC version."

This means that the Windows 10 operating system will only be available on mobile devices after the PC version of Windows 10 is launched this summer.

"Some devices and features will not be available on launch day, but will follow," said Qiao Beifeng. "From a device perspective, our main focus is to make Windows 10 a big hit on the PC market. You should understand that the release time of other device versions of Windows 10, such as mobile phones, holographic projection glasses HoloLens, Xbox and Surface Hub, will be staggered and may not be released on the same day as the PC version."

In fact, it is expected that the mobile version of Windows 10 will be released later than the PC version, but it can be confirmed that the new Lumia hardware devices will not be available until later this year. Previously, Microsoft released the PC version of Windows 8.1 operating system earlier than the mobile version, so Windows 10 will continue this tradition.

In addition to the release plans for the mobile version of the operating system, Microsoft also admitted that some features of Windows 10 will not be available at the time of release.

Qiao Beifeng did not specify how many features will not be available at the beginning of the release, but he revealed that some features will be released this summer and the number of releases will gradually increase this fall. For example, the extension support service of Microsoft's new Edge browser will be launched after the summer. Given that there is no new messaging application integrated with Skype in the current preview version of Windows 10 system, the new Skype may not be launched in the summer.

“We are now in the final stages of the project and we will continue to build out the system,” Qiao Beifeng explained.

Microsoft has not yet specified the exact release date of Windows 10, and it is still adjusting the details of the system. "We plan to launch it this summer, but you should remember one concept, that is, Windows is a service," Qiao Beifeng said. In other words, Windows 10 may be released this summer, but in the months after the release, there will be many rapid upgrades, new features, and application changes.
