My phone is connected to Wi-Fi 24 hours a day, but why is the data usage still running out?

It is undeniable that with the continuous development of Internet technology, our lives and work are increasingly inseparable from the support of the Internet. As an important way to obtain the Internet, Wi-Fi is widely used. However, I believe that many users have encountered such a problem: their mobile phones are clearly connected to Wi-Fi 24 hours a day, but they still consume mobile data. Who is "stealing" the data?

Recently, in order to explain this problem, China Mobile officials did a small popular science. First of all, we need to clarify two misunderstandings. Many people think that after a successful Wi-Fi connection, mobile data traffic will not be used at all, and there is no need to turn off the data traffic switch. But this is not the case. In fact, in our daily use, when the Wi-Fi signal is weak or unstable, traffic may still be consumed.

At the same time, many people also think that if a mobile phone is connected to Wi-Fi and is still using data, then it is either a problem with the phone or the data. But in fact, this is also related to the mobile phone data settings.

So, under what circumstances will data usage increase when connected to Wi-Fi? Generally, there are four reasons. First, when the Wi-Fi signal is unstable or the network is disconnected, the phone may default back to the 2G/3G/4G/5G network. Second, some public Wi-Fi has a time limit, and it will automatically switch back to the data network after the expiration. Third, due to the phone settings, the Wi-Fi connection was not successful. Finally, some mobile phone systems will automatically switch to the data network when the Wi-Fi connection signal is weak.

So how can we solve this problem? First of all, when connecting to Wi-Fi, we should turn off mobile data, which can minimize the loss of traffic. At the same time, many smartphones will automatically turn on the data network when the Wi-Fi signal is weak by default, and you can turn it off when it is not needed.

Finally, even if the Wi-Fi is always on, data usage will still occur. It is recommended that you check the settings of your phone and turn off data usage when the Wi-Fi signal is unstable.
