China Passenger Car Association: In October 2022, the sales volume of the domestic narrow passenger car market reached 1.842 million units, a year-on-year increase of 7.5%

In October, the sales volume of the domestic narrow passenger car market reached 1.842 million units, a year-on-year increase of 7.5%, and a month-on-month decrease of 4.2% from 1.922 million units in September. Among them, the sales volume of new energy narrow passenger cars reached 555,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 74.9%, and a month-on-month decrease of 9.24% from 611,000 units in September.

In the new energy market, BYD continued to perform well, with monthly sales once again exceeding 200,000 vehicles and taking a 37.1% market share, exceeding the total of the 2nd to 9th places, which can be described as "one against nine"; SAIC-GM-Wuling, Changan Automobile, GAC Aion, and Geely Automobile all had market shares above 5%; Chery Automobile, Great Wall Motor, and Dongfeng Fengshen made the list, ranking 7th, 12th, and 14th respectively; Nezha Auto, Seres Auto, NIO, Li Auto and other new forces in the car industry also made the list, ranking 6th, 9th, 10th, and 11th respectively; in terms of joint venture brands, only FAW-Volkswagen was still shortlisted, ranking 15th; Tesla's performance was average, slipping from 2nd last month to 8th this month.

Looking at the global new energy vehicle market, BYD is leading the way. In October, BYD sold 205,789 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 159.4% and a month-on-month increase of 7.6% from 191,237 vehicles in September, ranking first.

The "spring breeze" of the new energy market has not only spawned new car-making forces such as "NIO, Xpeng, Li Auto", AITO, and Zeekr Auto, but also brought BYD Auto to the throne of manufacturer sales champion, surpassing traditional powerhouses such as SAIC-GM, SAIC Volkswagen, and FAW-Volkswagen.

With its "DM-i/DM-p" hybrid technology and "blade battery" hard-core technology, BYD has become one of the few new energy brands that can take into account both the plug-in hybrid and pure electric markets, and has a layout in the sedan, SUV and MPV markets.

In October, SAIC-GM-Wuling's sales of new energy vehicles were 43,712 units, a year-on-year decrease of 14.4% and a month-on-month increase of 8.1% from 40,437 units in September, ranking No. 2.

At present, the wave of automobile electrification is surging. SAIC-GM-Wuling has maintained its monthly sales of new energy vehicles at more than 40,000 units through the outstanding performance of Hongguang MINI. However, facing many disruptors, SAIC-GM-Wuling urgently needs to explore new growth points.

In July this year, SAIC-GM-Wuling announced its entry into the hybrid market, and subsequently continued to accelerate the pace of product launches. This indicates that the high cost-effective model that Wuling has always adhered to may be repeated in the hybrid market, and it is also an important measure to boost its sales.

In August this year, Wuling's first hybrid model, the Wuling Xingchen Hybrid, was launched. More than two months later, on November 8, the Wuling Kaijie Hybrid Platinum Edition was officially unveiled, but the official launch date is yet to be determined.

In October, Changan Automobile finally went into full swing and rushed to third place. In October, Changan's sales of new energy vehicles were 32,446 units, a year-on-year increase of 408.4% and a month-on-month increase of 41.6% from 22,916 units in September, ranking third.

On the basis of maintaining the competitive advantage of fuel vehicles, Changan Automobile has continuously accelerated its layout in the new energy vehicle market, and has successively established an intelligent research institute, a new energy technology company, a software company, etc., providing organizational guarantees.

Moreover, Changan Automobile has achieved a series of technological breakthroughs and, together with Huawei and CATL, has built an intelligent electric connected vehicle platform and an all-electric digital platform covering three types of power: pure electric, extended-range, and hydrogen fuel.

In the first three quarters of this year, Changan Automobile sold 156,000 new energy vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 117.8%. By 2025, Changan Automobile plans to invest more than 80 billion yuan in key areas such as new energy, intelligence, and digital transformation, with more than 10,000 R&D personnel, and launch more than 30 new smart connected products.

TOP 4: GAC Aion

October sales: 30,063 units

In October, GAC Aion's monthly sales once again exceeded 30,000 units. In October, GAC Aion's sales of new energy vehicles were 30,063 units, a year-on-year increase of 127.9%, a slight increase from 30,016 units in September, ranking fourth.

As the fastest-growing new energy vehicle brand in this year's new energy vehicle market and also regarded by the outside market as the most promising new energy vehicle brand, GAC Aion has given the answer with its sales volume and proved the future with technology.

In October, Geely's new energy vehicle sales were 28,574 units, a year-on-year increase of 310.2%, and a month-on-month decrease of 22.5% from 36,863 units in September, ranking fifth.

Judging from sales, BYD can be said to be "leading the pack" in the field of new energy vehicles, but Geely Auto's market performance is also getting better, with monthly sales remaining at around 30,000 vehicles.

Diversification and multi-brand development have always been the main strategy of Geely Auto since its transformation into new energy.
