1. Lingqu Canal The ancient canal connecting the Yangtze River and the Pearl River in China, also known as the Xianggui Canal, the Douhe River, and the Xing'an Canal, is located in Xing'an County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The Lingqu Canal is a famous water conservancy project in ancient China. It is 37 kilometers long and was built in the 33rd year of Emperor Qin Shihuang (214 BC). It consists of a plow mouth, a large and small balance, a south channel, a north channel discharge balance, and a steep gate. The Lingqu Canal is scientifically designed and exquisitely constructed. The plow mouth divides the water of the Xiangjiang River into three parts and seven parts, of which three parts flow southward into the Lijiang River and seven parts flow northward into the Xiangjiang River. 2. Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal The Grand Canal from Beijing to Hangzhou is more than 1,790 km long and is a famous water conservancy project in China. The Grand Canal began to be dug in the Spring and Autumn Period and was finally opened in the Yuan Dynasty. The Grand Canal passes through six provinces and cities, namely Beijing, Hebei, Tianjin, Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, and connects the five major water systems of the Haihe River, the Yellow River, the Huaihe River, the Yangtze River and the Qiantang River into a unified water transport network. It was the main artery of ancient north-south transportation. 3. Dujiangyan Located in Dujiangyan City, Sichuan Province, this large-scale water diversion hub project on the Minjiang River is the oldest and only remaining large-scale water conservancy project in the world that features damless water diversion. It is also the world's longest damless water diversion project. Dujiangyan was built in the late years of King Zhao of Qin (approximately 256-251 BC) and was presided over by Li Bing, the governor of Qin and Shu. Dujiangyan was first named in the Song Dynasty. Before the Song Dynasty, it was called Du'an Weir, Jian Weir or Qianwei Weir. Dujiangyan is mainly used for irrigation, and also has multiple benefits such as flood control, water transportation, and urban water supply. The Chengdu Plain is therefore rich and has been known as the "Land of Abundance" since ancient times. 4. Three Gorges Project The full name of the Yangtze River Three Gorges Water Conservancy Project is the largest water conservancy project in China and the world. It is a key backbone project for the management and development of the Yangtze River. It has comprehensive benefits such as flood control, power generation, and shipping. It is an important project to reduce flood disasters in the Jinghu area. 5. South-to-North Water Diversion Project The East and Middle Route Project of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project involves 44 cities at prefecture level and above in seven provinces and municipalities, and the water receiving areas are 39 cities at prefecture level and above, 245 county-level cities (districts, county towns) and 17 industrial parks in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Henan and Jiangsu. The South-to-North Water Diversion Project is divided into three water diversion routes: East, Middle and West. After completion, it will be interconnected with the Yangtze River, Huaihe River, Yellow River and Haihe River, forming the overall pattern of "four horizontal and three vertical, north-south allocation, east-west mutual assistance" of my country's water resources. 6. Gezhouba Water Conservancy Project The first dam built on the Yangtze River in my country is an important part of the Three Gorges Water Conservancy Project. This great project is also one of the few huge water conservancy projects in the world. The design level and construction technology of the water conservancy project reflect the latest achievements of my country's current hydropower construction and are a milestone in the history of my country's hydropower construction. 7. Feilaixia Water Conservancy Project The largest water conservancy project in Guangdong Province, used for longitudinal cofferdam anti-scouring and consolidation of the weir, is located in the Feilaixia Management Area of Qingyuan City in the middle reaches of the Beijiang River in Guangdong Province. The dam site controls a basin area of 34,100 km2, accounting for 73% of the Beijiang River basin area. The total reservoir capacity is 1.904 billion cubic meters, the flood control capacity is 1.336 billion cubic meters, and the average annual power generation is 554 million kw/h. The development goal of the Feilaixia Water Conservancy Project is mainly flood control, while taking into account shipping, power generation, aquaculture, water supply, tourism and improving the ecological environment. 8. Jiangya Reservoir It is a key project to cure the flood disaster of Lishui River and is listed as a key project of the Ministry of Water Resources and Hunan Province. The project focuses on flood control, and also has comprehensive benefits such as power generation, irrigation, shipping, water supply, and tourism. The total storage capacity of the reservoir is 1.74 billion cubic meters, of which the flood control capacity is 740 million cubic meters, the hydropower installed capacity is 300,000 kilowatts, 85,000 mu of farmland is irrigated, 124 kilometers of waterways are improved, and more than 50,000 people can use the water for daily life. 9. Baise Water Conservancy Project Located on the Youjiang River upstream of the Yujiang River in Baise City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, the dam site is 22 kilometers upstream of Baise City. It is a large-scale water conservancy hub mainly for flood control, combined with power generation, irrigation, shipping, water supply and other comprehensive utilization. It is a large-scale backbone water conservancy project for the management and development of the Yujiang River in the comprehensive utilization plan of the Pearl River Basin. The project has been included in my country's "15th Five-Year Plan" and is one of the important landmark projects for the country to implement the Western Development. 10. Wangfuzhou Water Conservancy Project It is a large (2) type water conservancy project mainly for power generation, combined with shipping, and with comprehensive benefits such as irrigation, breeding, and tourism. It is located on the main stream of Hanjiang River in Laohekou City, Hubei Province, 30km upstream from Danjiangkou Water Conservancy Hub and about 3km downstream from the urban area of Laohekou City. |
