GAC New Energy and Aptiv jointly develop advanced driver assistance systems and will prioritize the launch of L3 autonomous driving vehicles next year

On August 20, Aptiv announced that it will build an advanced driver assistance system for GAC New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd.'s electric vehicle platform, providing the latter with a comprehensive solution for sensing and computing platforms including software and hardware.

The products will include intelligent forward-facing cameras, mid-range radars, short-range radars and active safety multi-domain controllers, driver fatigue monitoring systems, and related software and algorithms to enable GAC New Energy Vehicles to realize advanced driving assistance functions such as automatic cruise control in traffic jams and automatic cruise control on highways.

GAC has been actively promoting the development of intelligent networking and new energy. On July 28, GAC New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of GAC Group, was officially registered and established.

GAC plans to invest more than 45 billion yuan with its partners to build the GAC Intelligent Connected New Energy Vehicle Industrial Park, which is committed to providing world-class mobile intelligent new energy products and services, building an intelligent transportation network, and realizing unmanned driving experience. On April 18 this year, GAC obtained the first batch of road test licenses for autonomous driving.

At present, GAC New Energy has reached strategic cooperation with Huawei, Tencent, NIO, China Mobile, iFlytek, CATL and other companies. The intelligent network connection system it cooperated with Tencent will also be installed on GAC New Energy GE3 530 for the first time. The car is scheduled to be officially launched on August 28.

Gu Huinan, director and general manager of GAC New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd., recently stated that GAC New Energy has already begun testing L4 level autonomous driving vehicles, but considering overall considerations such as practicality and social traffic rhythm, it will give priority to launching L3 level autonomous driving vehicles in 2019.
