Opinion: Everyone hates cable TV, not just young people

For cable companies, the most common argument for cutting cords is that it’s the millennials’ fault,media thenextweb reported.

If they stop watching pirated content, they'll pay $100 a month for premium cable TV service. But is that really the case? A new survey from PwC and Statista suggests not.

While millennials are the generation that watches the most TV online, younger and older generations alike use the internet to watch TV to some degree.

The data shows that it is common for people aged 18-50 to watch TV via the internet. Interestingly, the data shows that people aged 50-59 have also started watching TV online in the past year. Since PwC's data covers the past few years, this result means that the way people watch TV is changing, even among older groups.

This could mean that cord-cutting is happening faster than expected. Cable companies have long been concerned about their low churn rates among customers who have been with cable for the past 20 years. But when people start changing their viewing habits, and doing so at a breakneck pace, it could be a big reason for big problems for cable companies.

It is learned that in Q3 2017, more than 1 million households gave up pay TV, which is the highest record in the history of the United States. What will worry cable TV companies most is that even the best streaming live service is only about half the price of the average cable TV.
