The threshold for college admission has become lower and lower, and young people can rejoice!

Below, the editor takes stock of the IT bigwigs’ college entrance examination major choices and outstanding work achievements, hoping to provide some reference for the college entrance examination volunteer choices of younger classmates!

1. Ma Huateng Department of Computer Science, Shenzhen University

Ma Huateng is very talented in computers. During his time at the Computer Science Department of Shenzhen University, he ranked among the top five and became a school celebrity. He also gradually found joy in writing software and researching computer networks. It is worth pointing out that Ma Huateng's method of learning programming is actually "the dumbest way to understand" - copying code to develop a sense of it.

The School of Computer and Software of Shenzhen University consists of the Department of Computer Science and Technology, the Department of Software Engineering, the Department of Network Engineering, the Department of Internet of Things Engineering, the Computer Experimental Teaching Center, and the National Linux Technology Training and Promotion Center. The school currently has four undergraduate majors, namely Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, and Internet of Things Engineering, and three master's programs, namely Computer Application Technology, Computer Software and Theory, and Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems. Among them, Computer Science and Technology is a provincial famous major.

2. Li Yanhong, Department of Information Management, Peking University

When 19-year-old Li Yanhong filled out his college entrance examination application, he had participated in the National Youth Programming Competition in high school, so he undoubtedly chose computer science. However, his first choice was not the Computer Science Department of Peking University, but the Information Management Department, because at that time he had already considered that: in the future, computers will definitely be widely used, and simply learning computers may not be as promising as combining computers with certain applications. From this point of view, Li Yanhong's ambitions finally began to become clear when he filled out his application.

The predecessor of the Department of Information Management of Peking University was the Department of Library Science, which was founded in 1947. Since the mid-twentieth century, a group of famous scholars such as Wang Zhongmin, Zhao Wanli, Yu Guangyuan, and Fu Zhenlun have taught or lectured in the department, laying the foundation for the growth of the discipline. In the 1950s and 1960s, in addition to undergraduates, the department also enrolled graduate students and correspondence students, and cultivated a large number of high-level talents and business backbones for China's library cause. Since the 1980s, the disciplines have been gradually expanded, the teaching methods have become increasingly modernized, and the teaching content has been continuously updated and enriched. At present, there are two undergraduate majors and three master's and doctoral programs in library science (undergraduate, master's, and doctoral), information science (master's and doctoral), information management and information systems (undergraduate), and editing and publishing (master's and doctoral programs are self-established).

3. Lei Jun, Department of Computer Science, Wuhan University

In the 1987 college entrance examination, Lei Jun chose to apply for Wuhan University. According to his grades, he could have been admitted to Tsinghua University or Peking University. As for why he gave up Peking University and Tsinghua University and finally chose Wuhan University, there are many different theories. The most popular one is that he applied for the computer department of Wuhan University because a good friend of his was studying in the computer department of the University of Science and Technology of China.

The School of Computer Science of Wuhan University was established on January 3, 2001. It was formed by the merger of the computer departments of the former Wuhan University, the former Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering, and the former Wuhan University of Surveying and Mapping. On January 11, 2010, the new School of Computer Science of Wuhan University was formed by the integration of the former School of Computer Science of Wuhan University, the State Key Laboratory of Software Engineering, the National Multimedia Software Engineering Technology Research Center, and the Computing Center of Wuhan University. Its history can be traced back to the Department of Computer Science established by the former Wuhan University in 1978. It is one of the earliest units in the country to establish a computer science department.
