The report mentioned that Apple's App Store now has more than 2 million apps, downloaded more than 170 billion times, of which about 10,000 apps have revenue exceeding $1 million.

There are many highlights in the report, the first of which is the comparison of the top ten apps in 2010 and 2018. Eight years ago, Talking Tom Cat topped the App Store, and ten years later, the Douyin app surpassed the YouTube channel to become the new king. Eight years ago, users were willing to spend more money on productivity, education, and navigation applications, but now they prefer entertainment consumption such as Netflix, Pandora, iQiyi, Kuaishou, Youku, and QQ.

There are no surprises in terms of games. All sections are dominated by those games, such as Candy Crush Saga, Clash of Clans, Angry Birds, Temple Run, etc.

App Annie's report also mentioned that game downloads only account for 31% of the App Store, but consumption accounts for 75%, and people are more willing to spend money on games.

In terms of total downloads, the “app series we haven’t seen before” dominated the rankings, with WeChat and QQ among the top ten.

Tencent Video, iQiyi, Kuaishou and QQ are seen in the total consumption list.

American developers rank first in terms of both downloads and consumption, with China ranking second.
