iOS 13.4.1 upgrade or not? Comparison review is here

Some time ago, Apple released iOS13.4.1, and the OTA upgrade from iOS13.4 was about 100MB.

As for this update, the introduction clearly states that it mainly includes bug fixes, performance improvements and security enhancements, and no new features are added.

However, since the reputation of iOS 13 has not been very good, many students are still waiting and watching, for fear that they will encounter setbacks after upgrading.

So in order to reassure everyone, let’s test today to see whether iOS13.4.1 can be upgraded or not!

Test models: iPhone11Pro Max, iPhoneSE2, iPhoneXS Max, iPhone8 Plus;

Test version: iOS13.4.1

Boot speed

Under iOS13.4.1, the iPhone8 Plus boots up faster, followed by the iPhoneSE2 and iPhoneXS Max, and the slowest is the iPhone11Pro Max.

To be honest, this result is quite unexpected, but the speed does not affect your normal use, so you can just take it as a reference. This also shows that Apple still takes care of older models.

Power

In order to compare objective results, I used the power test in Geekbench and conducted a 1-hour test (ignoring the battery health).

The results for iPhone11Pro Max and iPhoneXS Max are reasonable, after all, the batteries are larger. However, I didn’t expect that the iPhoneSE2 with a battery capacity of 1840mh would have a better battery life than the iPhone8 Plus. The result is a bit surprising.

This is enough to show that with the support of A13, a small battery capacity can also play a big role. However, before you refute me, you have to consider issues such as the degree of battery loss, so this power is for reference only.

Benchmark test

I found that in the running points, iOS13.4.1 is still more friendly to new models, but there is not much improvement for old models.

And from the photo I took after running the test, I can clearly feel that the iPhone 8 Plus automatically lowered the screen brightness due to overload.

So I also advise users of old models not to upgrade if you are still comfortable using the current mobile phone system version.

Fever

After running the benchmark and battery test, I played some games on these phones. After all, it’s only after running large-scale games that the heat of the phone body becomes more obvious.

After a period of gaming testing, the temperature of iPhone 11 Pro Max is 34.8 degrees.

After a period of gaming, the temperature of iPhone SE 2 is 37.2 degrees.

After a period of gaming, the temperature of iPhoneXS Max is 40.8 degrees.

After a period of gaming, the temperature of iPhone 8 Plus is 40.3 degrees.

The results are obvious. After upgrading to iOS13.4.1, the heating problem of the old models is still not solved, while the performance on iPhone11Pro Max and iPhoneSE is still good.

So, on the whole, this upgrade actually has little impact on both old and new models. They still get hot and consume power as usual, but fortunately, no complex bugs occurred during the test.

This time, apart from plugging the jailbreak loophole, there are basically no other new features, and iOS13.5 has been updated to Beta3. If nothing unexpected happens, iOS13.4 may have 1-2 Beta version updates in the future, but they will only fix problems and no new features will appear.

Therefore, this is just a minor version update, and you can just stay with the current version and there is no need to upgrade. But if you can’t help it, it is best to connect your iPhone to iTunes on your computer and perform a complete firmware upgrade.
