In April this year, the band released a statement saying that Chiba Yusuke needed to concentrate on treatment due to esophageal cancer and stopped performing. At the same time, they apologized to the organizers, performers and fans, and stated that all units would handle ticket refunds in accordance with regulations.

The Birthday stated in the obituary that Chiba Yusuke has been actively cooperating with the treatment. "For more than half a year, I have received a lot of inspiring and warm encouragement. I am very grateful for the support and protection of the fans."

In 2019, The Birthday officially announced that it would launch its first China tour in Shanghai and Beijing in 2020, but later "delayed" the performance for some reason.

About 300,000 people die from esophageal cancer each year worldwide

The famous actor was diagnosed and died only one month later

Esophageal cancer, also known as esophageal cancer, is a common digestive tract tumor. Its incidence rate ranks eighth in the world, and about 300,000 people die from esophageal cancer every year.

According to media reports, on November 28, Japanese science fiction writer, mystery writer, and screenwriter of "Astro Boy" and "Jungle Emperor", Aritsune Toyota also died of esophageal cancer at the age of 85.

On December 12, 21, the famous actor Tu Men died of esophageal cancer at the age of 61. It was only one month from the diagnosis to his death.

In fact, before Tu Men, many people in the entertainment industry had lost their lives to esophageal cancer.

On November 10, 2021, Zhang Song, a leading figure in China's broadcasting industry, died due to ineffective treatment of advanced esophageal cancer.

On November 20, 2014, Xiang Huasheng, who was called the "Hong Kong film tycoon" by many media, died of esophageal cancer at the age of 64.

Why is esophageal cancer so dangerous? How can we prevent it?

Nearly half of the world's esophageal cancer patients are in China

Experts: Eating hot pot may increase the risk of esophageal cancer

According to statistics, the incidence of esophageal cancer ranks fifth among malignant tumors in China, and the mortality rate ranks fourth. Looking around the world, this cancer prefers Chinese people.

Esophageal cancer is a common cancer with a poor prognosis. According to the latest statistics published in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology, China accounts for nearly half of the global burden of esophageal cancer morbidity and mortality.

The five major risk factors for esophageal cancer are: smoking (39.0%), drinking (33.8%), high body mass index (BMI) (19.5%), low fruit intake in the diet (19.1%), and chewing tobacco (7.5%).

"The characteristics of the prevalence of esophageal cancer in my country are that the incidence rate in men is higher than that in women, and in rural areas is higher than in cities. The high-incidence areas are mainly concentrated in areas near the Taihang Mountains, including Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, Tai'an, Jining, Heze in Shandong, Anhui, and northern Jiangsu." Hao Anlin, director of the Department of Thoracic Surgery and second-level professor at Anyang Cancer Hospital in Henan Province, told reporters.

The northern part of Sichuan (Yanting, Langzhong, Bazhong and Yilong areas) is also one of the high-incidence areas of esophageal cancer , and the disease often occurs in family clusters.

Esophageal cancer is a disease that is truly "infected by food", and its common risk factors are all related to diet. Generally speaking, the higher the temperature, the higher the risk.

Therefore, many people, especially people in Sichuan, began to worry whether eating hot pot would increase the risk of cancer?

Professor Chen Longqi, Director of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at West China Hospital of Sichuan University, said: Hot pot has four sins that accelerate esophageal cancer:

1. Too high temperature: The body temperature of the esophagus is 38°C, but when eating hot pot, you may accidentally eat food at 60-70°C, which will cause great damage to the esophagus. After repeated occurrences, inflammation may develop into cancer;

2. Additives in the pot: Additives in hot pot may produce carcinogens;

3. Special dipping sauce: In the north, the dipping sauces for hot pot are usually sesame sauce, juice, etc., while in Sichuan, the dipping sauces for hot pot are usually sesame oil and original soup. The medium of "oil" has a faster heat conduction than sesame sauce, juice, etc., and will cause greater damage to the esophagus;

4. Foreign bodies in the esophagus: When the hot pot is white, the oral mucosa is very sensitive to food. If the base is changed to spicy, the oral mucosa will not be so sensitive, and it is not easy to feel hard bones. Once the esophagus is scratched, it is easy to cause infection. Therefore, don't be impatient when eating hot pot. Wait until it cools down before eating, and don't be stubborn and chew on "hard bones".

These people are very dangerous.

Esophageal cancer is generally curable if detected in the early stage. If it reaches the middle or late stage, the 5-year survival rate is relatively poor. Therefore, it is particularly important to prevent esophageal cancer! The following high-risk groups are recommended to have a gastroscopy every 3 to 4 years:

① Those from areas with a high incidence of esophageal cancer in my country;

② Upper gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, acid reflux, discomfort with eating, etc.;

③ Family history of esophageal cancer;

④ Suffering from esophageal precancerous diseases or precancerous lesions;

⑤ Have high-risk factors for esophageal cancer such as smoking, heavy drinking, head and neck or respiratory tract squamous cell carcinoma, etc.

In addition, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, avoid overcooking, chew slowly, avoid overeating, and eat until you are 70% full. Eat less pickled food (the white film on kimchi may be caused by fungal infection, and the ammonium nitrite produced by fungal infection + nitrite is a more harmful substance), stay away from moldy food, quit smoking and drinking.
