Don't buy them anymore! Cartoon-shaped hand warmers are not up to standard!

Electric hot water bottles, rechargeable hand warmers and other hand warmers are the favorites of many people who are afraid of cold in winter. When you are riding in a car, shopping, sleeping, or lying on the sofa to watch TV series, holding them in your hands is like holding a warm sun.

But sometimes they are also "terrible time bombs."

In order to allow everyone to spend a warm winter with peace of mind, this time we selected 10 hand warming device samples including electric water bottles, electric heating cakes and rechargeable hand warmers for evaluation.

This review will tell you whether you can continue to use the hand warmer, how to buy it, and how to use it!

As early as 2010, the electrode-type hot water bottle was listed as a banned product by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. This is because when it is powered on, the electric heating element inside the hot water bag heats the liquid inside to store heat. The two electrodes are in direct contact with the liquid, generating heat through the resistance of the internal brine, which poses a great risk of explosion and leakage.

After conducting a structural inspection on all samples, we found that this hot water bottle sample from Bemijia, which is labeled as an electric heating tube hot water bottle, actually uses electrode heating, which does not meet the current national requirements for such products!

As of the time of posting, the e-commerce store where we purchased samples has removed the product from its shelves.

When buying a hot water bottle, you can touch the heating element. If the heating element is a very small round tube, like the one inside the disassembled Bemei hot water bottle, it is an electrode type hot water bottle. Don’t buy it again!

If you touch a mesh-type silk thread or a U-shaped heating tube, like the inside of several other electric hot water bottles reviewed this time, it will be relatively safer.

These hand warmers are super cute, right? Every cute pig girl wants one, right?

I regret to tell you that none of the three products from Yixiu Technology, CAPRICE/Caprice and mekava meet the national standards!

The hand warmer is made into a cartoon shape that looks like a toy, and can be easily played with by children.

For example, chewing the outer shell, poking the charging port with fingers, removing small parts and putting them in the mouth and nose, etc., will all have certain risks of chemical hazards, electric shock and swallowing foreign objects. Therefore, relevant national home appliance safety standards stipulate that such products cannot be made into toy-like appearances, which are likely to arouse children's curiosity.

After heating, the temperature of the hand warmer will be relatively high, so use it with caution if you have children at home!

Using different testing methods, we tested the mechanical strength of the electric hot water bottle and two other hard-shell hand warmers to see if they could withstand a drop test or an 80kg squeeze test.

According to the standard requirements, in the drop test, the hard shell hand warmer should not have shell damage, electric heating element breakage, structural seam damage, glue or welding point cracking, appliance input socket loosening, and electrical connection loosening or breaking;

The electric hot water bottle must not leak liquid or rupture during the 5-minute 80kg squeeze test.

Test results: All passed

The safety performance inspection conducted this time also includes 12 items such as protection against touching live parts, input power and current, leakage current and electrical strength at operating temperature, stability and mechanical hazards, power connection and external flexible wire, terminal blocks for external wires, creepage distance, electrical clearance and solid insulation.

The results showed that the banned product, electrode-type hot water bottle, Beimeijia, had two other unqualified items:

① The appliance is not equipped with a non-self-resetting thermal circuit breaker, which may cause the heating temperature to be too high;

② The sample structure is Z-connected, which is not allowed by the standard.

The other models all met the standard requirements in these safety test items.

Of course the temperature of a hand warmer must be enough to keep people warm, but the hotter it is not the better. Otherwise, why isn’t it called a hand warmer?

We measured the maximum temperature of the heated surface of all samples (after removing the removable original cloth cover).

Judging from the results, the highest temperature of the rainbow electric heating pad after removing the cloth cover reached 93℃, and people dared not touch it directly with their hands; the highest temperature of the Antarctic and Yubaina hot water bottles without cloth covers was close to 70℃.

If you remove the cloth cover of the hand warmer and use it directly, you are very likely to get burned. Be sure to put on the cloth cover before using it!

Remove the cloth cover of rainbow hand warmer, no!

We calculated the time it takes for 10 hand warmer samples to heat to their respective highest temperatures and found that the heating time of solid electric heating pads and electric hot water bottles was relatively short, both around 10 minutes.

The rainbow hand warmer only takes 5 minutes; the heating time of a battery-powered hand warmer is relatively much longer and is not suitable for people who have high requirements for heating speed.

Through experience with their heat preservation performance, we also found that electric hot water bottles and battery-powered hand warmers have relatively long heat preservation time, about 3 hours on average.

The average heat preservation time of rainbow's solid electric pancake is short, less than 2.5 hours.
