On January 25, in response to some of the current controversies among netizens, the WeChat team said: "Friends Circle is a space for users to share and follow their friends' lives. The behavior of sending marketing information in batches or at a high frequency has always disturbed users' peace and reduced their experience in the Friends Circle, (and therefore) has been complained by many users."

In addition, the team also stated: "According to the WeChat Personal Account Usage Guidelines, once such content (marketing information) is discovered, Tencent will take corresponding measures against the WeChat account based on the degree of violation, including but not limited to folding the content, processing the content so that it is visible only to the publisher, etc."
